Final Stats

CHICAGO (9/17/2013) --
Three Titans finished in the top six as the University of Detroit Mercy women's golf team concluded play at Chicago State's Cougar Classic on Tuesday, held at the Par 72, 5,914-yard Starboard Course at Harborside International Golf Center.

"With a couple of new faces in the line-up and with only playing four to start yesterday, I was very happy with the way we played," said head coach Terri Anthony-Ryan. "The conditions were better today and we shot a good score so for a season opener, I was very pleased."

Detroit finished in third with a 617 (311-306), just five shots in back of Indiana State (612) and eight behind host Chicago State (609).

Senior Christina Thorne led the way with a 1-over 73 on the final round to post a 147 (74-73) scorecard, tying for third place just four shots behind the victor. It was her 12th career top-10 effort and she also finished the tournament with a team-best 24 pars and five birdies.

"Christina was her steady self and she just plays very consistent golf in every round," said Coach Ryan.

Junior Olivia Richards – who had the lead after the opening 18 - ended up in fifth place with a 149 (72-77) after tallying a 5-over 77 in the final round. The finish was her 13th career top-10 mark. She also recorded a team-high nine birdies and led the field in Par 5 scoring with a -3, 4.62 average.

Senior Lindsey Lammers lowered her first-round score down to a 3-over 75 and ended up in sixth place with a 152 (77-75), her 17th career top-10 mark, including the 13th time in her last 14 events. She totaled 22 pars in the 36 holes and was fifth in the competition in Par 4 scoring (+3, 4.15).

"Olivia just had some shots that didn't go for her and Lindsey had a few putts that didn't fall, but they both hung in there," added Coach Ryan.

Junior Jessica Mallender had an 81 on the final 18 to take 61st with a 169 (88-81), while freshman Sarah Thompson made her collegiate debut carding an 81.

"Sarah played well considering her circumstances and Jessica really improved from yesterday's round," said Coach Ryan.

The Titans will be back in action next week, Sept. 22-23, as they participate in the Cleveland State Invitational at Pine Hills Golf Club in Hinckley, Ohio.
