INDIANAPOLIS (1/15/14) – University of Detroit Mercy senior forward Evan Bruinsma has been named the Horizon League's Male Scholar-Athlete of the Month for December. This is the second-straight month that the co-captain has earned this honor.

Bruinsma carries a 3.8 GPA as a business administration major and was a member of the Horizon League Honor Roll in the Fall and Spring of 2012-13. He was also named to the 2013 UDM Athletic Director's Honor Roll and nominated for the 2014 NABC Good Works Team.

Bruinsma averaged 12.7 points and 8.8 rebounds per game in December and recorded two double-doubles, including 25 points and 14 rebounds at Toledo. Over the seven games in the month Bruinsma scored in double figure five times, while grabbing 10 or more rebounds four times.

Detroit will continue Horizon League play when the Titans host Valparaiso tonight (Wednesday, Jan. 15). Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Calihan Hall and will be televised live on Comcast 900. The game can also be heard on 1270 AM with Dan Leach the voice of Titan Basketball.
