Due to the holiday season, the women's basketball notebook took a week off, but we are back with some great content for this week
Â
Lending A Hand – It might have been a rough week for Detroit on the court, but when it came to helping others, the Titan student-athletes were at the front of the line - or in back of a car. While driving home in the snowstorm after its game at Wright State on Sunday, UDM stopped at a rest area and saw a few cars stuck in the snow. Detroit went right to work helping push the cars and its' effort was acknowledged on local FOX 2 and on
FOX Sports Live.
Â
Raise The Banner – The Titans will raise their 2013 WBI Championship banner on Saturday prior to their homecoming game against Oakland, which tips off at 2:00 p.m. UDM won the event by defeating Belmont, the College of Charleston, Penn and McNeese State in the title game for its first postseason tournament since claiming the State-Large College Tournament in 1981. No. 2 – Senior
Senee Shearer currently is second in the nation with 3.64 three-point field goals per game, trailing only Brown's Sophie Bikofsky (3.67). Shearer – who recently saw her school record eight-straight games with 20 or more points come to an end at Wright State – has 51 3-pointers on the year, tied for first in the nation with Morgan Eye of Missouri.
Â
Who Will Start Next? – Due to the injuries Detroit has racked up this year, the Titans have used nine different starting line-ups through their first 14 games. Only senior
Megan Hatter has started all 14 games and 12 of 13 players that have suited up this season have started at least one game, with the lone exception in senior walk-on
Abby McCollum who was just officially added to the roster in mid-December.
Â
She Can Play Anything – A great story did happen at Wright State as senior
Abby McCollum saw her first collegiate basketball action playing seven minutes. For McCollum, she is the first female Titan to see action for three sports since Laura Gignac (1999-03) saw time with cross country, track and field and softball in her four years.
McCollum had a great four-year career in soccer and also played five games with the women's lacrosse team in 2011.
