DETROIT (11/24/14) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team will play the host school University of Toledo in the Progressive Legends Classic sub-regional championship game on Tuesday, Nov. 25. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. inside Savage Arena.

LAST OUTINGThe University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team used a 25-8 run in the final 10 minutes of action to win the first sub-regional game of the Progressive Legends Classic 69-55 over the University of Maryland Eastern Shore on Monday at Savage Arena.

Detroit (3-2) trailed 47-44 with 10:04 remaining in regulation, before Horizon League Freshman of the Week
Paris Bass took over scoring seven of the next 10 points to give the Titans a 54-48 lead. A lead they wouldn't relinquish.

With the win the Titans moved on to play in the sub-regional championship game against Toledo, which beat Bucknell 92-65 in the nightcap.

Bass finished with 11 points – all in the last 10 minutes of the game – including a thunderous dunk over everyone to put the Titans up by 10. Altogether Bass finished with 11 points, six rebounds, two steals, one assist and one blocked shot in 10 minutes.

Anton Wilson led Detroit with a team-high 14 points, while senior forward
Juwan Howard Jr. pitched in 12 and his classmate
Brandan Kearney added 11. Sophomore guard
Matthew Grant added eight points to go along with four steals, while junior guard
Carlton Brundidge added seven points with three steals.

Senior guard Julius Brown paced UT's attack with 19 points. Also scoring in double figures for the Rockets were senior forward J.D. Weatherspoon (14 pts.), sophomore guard Jonathan Williams (13 pts.) and senior guard Justin Drummond (11 pts.).

Toledo shot 37.9 percent from the field and 11-of-27 (37.9 percent) behind the three-point arc. The Ducks posted a 41.3 FG% (26-of-63), a 33.3 3PTFG% (6-of-18) and converted 20-of-24 free-throw attempts. UT was just 7-of-13 (53.8%) from the charity stripe.

TITANS vs. TOLEDOThis will 54th meeting between Detroit and Toledo, with the Rockets leading the all-time series 29-24. The Rockets took both meetings last year including an 80-78 win as part of the 2K Sports Classic benefitting the Wounded Warrior Project. The last win for Detroit in the series came during the 2012-13 season when the Titans topped the Rockets 79-73 at Calihan Hall during Star Wars Night. That win for the Titans was their first over Toledo since the 2005-06 season.

BASS NAMED FRESHMAN OF THE WEEKUniversity of Detroit Mercy men's basketball freshman guard/forward
Paris Bass has been named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week following strong performances last week against Oregon, Michigan and South Alabama.
Bass won Freshman of the Week honors after averaging 9.3 ppg. and 4.0 rpg., for the Titans. He recorded eight points and two rebounds in Detroit's game at Oregon on Monday night. He followed up that performance with 12 points, six rebounds, a steal and an assist in Detroit's game at 22nd-ranked Michigan. He closed the week with eight points, four rebounds and three blocked shots in Detroit's 66-53 win over South Alabama.
HOWARD IS ALMOST 39Detroit senior forward
Juwan Howard Jr. is closing in on becoming the 39th Titan to join the 1,000-point club. Howard enters Tuesday's game with 918 points, just 82 shy of reaching 1,000. The last Titan to join the club was Jason Calliste during the 2012-13 season when he finished 31st overall with 1,107 points.

UDM SELECTED TO HOST NCAA TOURNAMENTIt was announced Monday (Nov. 17) that Detroit was selected as one of the eight host sites for first- and second-round games in the 2018 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship. University of Detroit Mercy will serve as the host institution with the games being played at the new Detroit arena March 16 & 18. Exact times and ticket availability for those contests will be released at a later date.
Downtown Detroit last hosted the NCAA tournament in 2009 and 2008, when the men's Final Four and Midwest Regional were played at Ford Field, respectively. The Palace of Auburn Hills welcomed early round games in 2013. In addition to the tournament, the area has welcomed other NCAA events, including the Men's Frozen Four (2010), the Division I Wrestling Championship (2007), and the Women's Bowling National Championship (2009, 2011, 2013).

Brandan Kearney was a member of the 2010 USA Youth Olympic Games Team that finished in fourth place with a 5-2 record in Singapore. He also played on the 2009 USA U16 National Team that captured the gold medal with a perfect 5-0 slate at the 2009 FIBA Americas U16 Championship in Mendoza, Argentina.

Coach McCallum was an assistant coach for the 2000 USA World Championship For Young Men Qualifying Team and helped coach the USA to a silver medal and a 4-1 slate. His son and former Titan
Ray McCallum played on the 2011 USA World University Games Team that finished with a 7-1 record, but dropped its quarterfinal contest and returned home in fifth place.
UP NEXTFollowing a much needed Thanksgiving break after playing five games in eight days Detroit will host Bowling Green on Sunday, Nov. 30 to begin a four-game home stand.
