Video Of The Event With Marzac Lifting To Victory
DETROIT (11/26/2014) -- The Second Annual Titan lacrosse Lift-A-Thon made another strong showing last weekend as the University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team showed off its hard work in the strength room in a friendly-fundraising competition.
The Lift-A-Thon is an annual fundraiser that benefits the UDM strength and conditioning department and an outside charity, with part of the proceeds this year going to the United Way for Southeastern Michigan.
"I want to say thank you to everyone who helped make this year's Lift-A-Thon another highly successful event," said
Sean Williamson, Director of Strength and Conditioning. "Thank you to all of those who donated and pledged in support of our student-athletes and the United Way and a big thanks to the lacrosse team for their hard work and the strength they showed today. It was really the best event I have ever been part of."
The fundraiser received over $2,000 in gifts and pledges from a number of sponsors and will help improve equipment and training for all the student-athletes at the University.
The team was split into four different weight groups and players were sponsored based on the total amount they lifted. The players broke down into veteran and rookie classes as well as different weight classes participated in three competition lifts; the Clean & Jerk, Back Squat and Push Press.
In the end, an overall winner for the competition was also established in Titan sophomore
Greg Marzac, who lifted a total of 1,015 pounds in the three events, including leading the team with a 495-lb back squat and a 255-lb push press.
