Detroit is 7-1 in exhibition games under head coach Autumn Rademacher, with its lone loss in her very first preseason game against Wayne State in 2008. Just a few weeks after that, Coach Rademacher captured her first coaching win in a big way as the red, white and blue upset No. 23 Georgia, 70-66, in Calihan Hall.
Coach Rademacher in now in her seventh year at the helm of her alma mater with her 89 wins ranking third in school history, just two away from second place DeWayne Jones (91) and four in back of one of her college coaches at Detroit Fred Procter (93).
The Titans will have seven total letter winners on the active squad this season along with five newcomers. The key will be to stay healthy as UDM used 19 different starting line-ups last year as Titan players combined to miss a total of 70 games due to injuries.
Back to lead Detroit is senior
Ellisha Crosby and redshirt sophomore
Rosanna Reynolds. Crosby was second on the team in scoring (17.5) and leading the squad in rebounding (7.4) – top five in the Horizon League in both categories – through the first 12 games until a foot injury forced her to miss the rest of the year. Reynolds was on the Horizon League All-Newcomer Team as a freshman tallying 7.8 points – fifth on the team – 3.3 rebounds and a team-high 4.0 assists per game, but played just three games last year after a knee injury ended her campaign.
Senior
Brie Wilcox and junior
DaVonna Bradford are veterans that are back and healthy and looking to make an impact, while sophomores
Lizzy Connors,
Minisha Frederick-Childress and
Haleigh Ristovski all have a year of valuable collegiate experience under their belt as they take the next step in their careers.
A young and talented newcomer class is led by junior college transfer
Lariah Stevens along with freshmen
Brianne Cohen,
Darianne Seward,
Chea Taylor and
Nicole Urbanick, all of whom will vie for immediate playing time.
Salem International is a Division II team that plays in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC). The Tigers were 4-22 last season, but do have a lot of local talent on their roster with junior Toi Brown, sophomore Dorina Barrett and freshman Briana Priestly all from Detroit, while junior Cyneia Hunter is from Pontiac and senior Amanda Jackson hails from nearby Dayton, Ohio.
The Tigers head coach is Southfield native Lester Harbin, who spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach with Oakland.
Salem International averaged 63.6 points per game last year, while giving up 76.3 Senior Inkera Patterson is the leading returning scorer at 12.5 ppg., and also led the Tigers with 3.8 assists per contest. Senior TaShay Smith is the leading rebounder back at 5.2 per game to go with 7.9 ppg.
This is the lone exhibition game of the year for the Titans as they will open the regular season next Friday, Nov. 14, at Michigan with tip-off slated for 7:00 p.m.
