COACH RAD TWO AWAY FROM SCHOOL RECORDHead coach
Autumn Rademacher '97 moved into sole possession of second place in school history in coaching victories with 92 after the Titans win over Madonna on Monday, ahead of DeWayne Jones (91, 1983-90), and now just two away from breaking the Titan record held by her coach in college Fred Procter (93, 1990-96).
It is not like Coach Rademacher took over a top of the line program as Detroit was coming off back-to-back last-place finishes and just 11 total wins from 2006-08.
In her first six years, Detroit has recorded three winning seasons, a pair of 20-win campaigns, five years with a conference tournament victory, a trip to the WNIT in 2012 - the first postseason action for UDM since 1997 - and the school's first postseason title since 1981 when the Titans won the WBI in 2013.
AGAINST THE OVCThis will be just the seventh career meeting between Detroit and a current member of the Ohio Valley Conference as the Titans have posted a 5-1 record in the first six games.
UDM is 2-0 against Eastern Kentucky, 1-0 against Tennessee State and Belmont and 1-1 versus Morehead State.
The last time Detroit played an OVC member was in the first round of the Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI) in 2013 as the Titans ousted Belmont, 71-68.
EARLY SEASON TOURNAMENTSDetroit is 22-38 all-time in regular season tournaments as the Titans went 1-1 in last year's Toledo Invite falling to the Rockets before defeating Chicago State
The last time the Titans won a regular season tournament was in 1999 when UDM downed South Alabama and host Florida A&M in the Rattler Classic.
BIG TIME DEFENSEThe Titans have played some tough defense to start the 2014-15 season, holding teams to just 63.1 points per game, down from last season's 80.5 ppg. UDM has held three opponents to 60 or less on the season and twice to under 50.
In the Horizon League, Detroit is currently third in scoring defense, fourth in field-goal percentage defense (.372) and fifth in steal (7.9).
Detroit had one of its best defensive games in school history in defeating Marygrove, 88-46, in the home opener on Nov. 16.
The 46 points allowed was the fewest since Detroit downed Youngstown State at home, 62-48, during the 2012-13 campaign.
The 25.0% (16-of-64) shooting by Marygrove was the lowest UDM has held a team since Milwaukee's 22.8% on Mar. 2, 2013.
Detroit held IPFW to just 29.7% shooting, including 28.5% (12-of-42) in the second half and overtime and 16.7% (2-of-12) in the extra session alone, while limiting Madonna to 29.4% (15-of-51) its last time out.
The 15 made field goals by Madonna was the fewest by an opponent since Youngstown State had just 15 in that 62-48 win.
MORE DEFENSEDetroit tied its season high with 10 steals and 20 forced turnovers its last time out against Madonna.
FROM DOWNTOWNThe Titans made just 33 shots from behind the arc in their first five games, but Detroit has turned that around with 21 in its last two - both wins.
Detroit was 11-of-21 from behind the arc at IPFW, the most three's UDM has had in a game since netting 11 against Chicago State last season, and is coming off a 10-of-28 effort against Madonna.
The 11 treys at IPFW were also part of a season-high 30 made field goals.
HL HONORS REYNOLDS' CAREER PERFORMANCERedshirt sophomore
Rosanna Reynolds was named the Horizon League and College Sports Madness Player of the Week on Dec. 8.
Reynolds earned the accolades for the first time in her career after connecting on a career-best seven 3-pointers en route to a career-high 33 points in the overtime win over the Mastodons on Dec. 2.
She became just the 18th Titan in school history to score 30 or more in a game, with the 33 points the most since teammate
Ellisha Crosby had 33 against EMU last season.
The seven 3-pointers were a career best by four over her previous high and the most since
Senee Shearer nailed seven against Madonna last season.
The seven treys were also one away from the school record of eight that Daphne Smith (8-of-11) had versus Butler on Jan. 10, 1987.
ROSIE THE SCORERRedshirt sophomore
Rosanna Reynolds looks to be back in form after posting her fifth-straight double-digit scoring effort and sixth of the season with 12 points against Madonna.
The 12 points were on four 3-pointers giving her 11 from long range in the last two games.
She recently tallied a career-high 33 points at IPFW on Dec. 2 going 11-of-18 from the field and 7-of-10 from three-point territory, all while also collecting 11 rebounds.
She started the year netting 17 points at Michigan, led Detroit with 15 points at Ohio and netted 10 apiece against St. Bonaventure and at Niagara.
The only game she has not scored at least 10 was in the blowout win over Marygrove as she had nine in just 19 minutes of action.
On the year, she is currently sixth in the Horizon League with 15.1 ppg., while registering 3.1 apg., tied for 10th.
Reynolds is also leading the HL in three-point field goals per game (3.1), and with her 22 three-point baskets on the season, she is well on her way of topping the 25 she had as a freshman in 2012-13.
ALL-AROUND GAMESophomore
Haleigh Ristovski continues to show her full basketball skills this season on both the offensive and defensive end of the floor.
She might not be the typical frontcourt player, but she has grabbed at least eight rebounds in five of UDM's seven games, including back-to-back career highs with 11 at IPFW and 12 against Madonna.
She has also recorded back-to-back double-doubles - the first ones in her collegiate career - ending with 13 points at IPFW and a career-best 20 against Madonna.
Her last game against Madonna also saw her post nearly a triple-double as she handed out a career-high six assists to go with her 20 points and 13 rebounds.
She has recorded at least five assists four times this year and is leading the team and is fifth in the Horizon League at 4.3 per game.
On the season, she is third on the team and 17th in the HL in scoring at 10.0 ppg., as well as leading the team and ranking sixth in the conference in rebounding at 8.3 per game.
GOOD DECISIONSRedshirt sophomore
Rosanna Reynolds and sophomore
Haleigh Ristovski are both currently tied for third in the Horizon League with a 1.8 assist-to-turnover ratio.
Reynolds has 22 assists and just 12 turnovers on the year, while Ristovski is at 30 assists and 17 turnovers from her forward spot.
As a freshman, Ristovski recorded a 2.7 mark (47 A, 17 TO) last season.
LITTLE D BRINGS BIG OFreshman
Darianne Seward might have been making her first collegiate start in her first career game at Michigan, but you would never know it by the way the rookie played.
The 5-4 guard from Ohio ended the day with a game-high 19 points - 17 in the first half alone - along with three rebounds, three assists and a steal.
The 19 points in a collegiate debut was the most by a Titan true freshman since the 2011-12 season and the most by a Titan true freshman guard since Titan Hall-Of-Famer and the school's all-time leading scorer Cassandra Pack netted 23 at home against Bowling Green to open the 1983-84 campaign.
Seward has continued to be a force on offense recording her fifth game in double digits with 10 her last time out against Madonna.
She is currently second on the team in scoring and 12th in the Horizon League at 11.6 ppg.
Seward is also eighth in the HL in free throw percentage (77.4%) connecting on 24-of-31, the fifth most free throws and attempts among conference peers.
IF ONE IS GOOD, TWO IS BETTERRedshirt sophomore
Rosanna Reynolds and sophomore
Haleigh Ristovski each tallied a double-double in the overtime win at IPFW.
Reynolds ended the contest with a career-high 33 points and career-best 11 rebounds for her second career double-double (she had 17 points and 10 rebounds vs. Madonna in 2012).
Meanwhile, Ristovski scored a then season-high 13 points and grabbed a then career-high 11 caroms for her first career double-double.
Both players also added four assists.
5 FOR 10Detroit had five players in double figures against Madonna, the second time this season UDM has had five players score 10 or more points in a game.
Against Madonna, sophomore
Haleigh Ristovski had a career-high 20, while redshirt sophomore
Rosanna Reynolds and freshman
Nicole Urbanick had 12 and senior
Ellisha Crosby and freshman
Darianne Seward netted 10 apiece.
DEPTH WORKING THE BOARDSFreshman Brianna Cohen is coming off a season-high seven points and eight rebounds against Madonna, while freshman
Chea Taylor had six points and eight boards at IPFW
ELLISHA IN DOUBLE DIGITSSenior
Ellisha Crosby was back in double figures with 10 points against Madonna, the third time this season she has been in double figures after netting 12 at Ohio and 16 against St. Bonaventure.
She has now played in 19 career games for the Titans and has scored in double digits 15 times.
In her Titan career, Crosby is tallying 14.5 ppg., including 9.4 ppg., this year.
NO "MINNIE ME" HERESophomore
Minisha Frederick-Childress might stand just 5-4, but she can crash the boards witnessed by her season-high seven rebounds at IPFW on Dec. 2.
The seven boards were just two away from her career high of nine set against Milwaukee as a freshman.
Last season, she played in 25 games with 13 starts and averaged 5.2 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game, while scoring in double digits six times, all in the last 11 games of the season.
She had a season high 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting, while also collecting a season-best five steals, at UIC and had 10 points, four rebounds and a season-high seven assists at Oakland.
HELPING OUR CAUSEWith a strong group of guards, you would expect that Detroit would be able to take care of the ball and create a lot of assists and the Titans have done just that.
Detroit is fifth in the Horizon League in assists at 14.4 per game as well as fourth in the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.0). The red, white and blue is one of just four teams in the league to have more assists than turnovers on the year, and has committed a season-low nine turnovers in two of the past four games.
The Titans also finished with 22 assists against Marygrove in their home opener on Nov. 16.
URBANICK FINDING HER STROKEFreshman
Nicole Urbanick netted a season-high 12 points her last time out against Madonna. It was the third time this season she has been in double figures with 10 against Marygrove and 11 versus St. Bonaventure.
Against Madonna, she nailed three 3-pointers for the third time this season and is 11-for-30 (36.7%) on the year behind the arc.
On the season, she is averaging 7.4 points per game - fifth on the team - , while leading the squad in shooting at 45.2% (19-of-42).
GETTING TO 70The Titans are 52-19 when they score 70 or more points as well as 19-5 when they score 80 or more under head coach Autumn Rademacher. UDM has also eclipsed 90 seven times under Coach Rad, with a season-high 96 against Eastern Michigan last year.
