Detroit (2-4) trailed by nine points midway through the second period, but behind redshirt sophomore
Rosanna Reynolds' career-high 33 points, the Titans were able to come back and down IPFW in overtime, 81-74. Reynolds also had 11 rebounds for her second career double-double, while adding four assists.
Sophomore
Haleigh Ristovski recorded her first career double-double with a season-best 13 points and career-high 11 boards – along with four assists – and the Titans hit on a season-best 47.6% shooting, including 11 from behind the arc.
Madonna enters the game at 6-2 overall and 5-1 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. DETROIT VS. MADONNAThis is just the fourth career meeting between the two schools - all in Calihan Hall - as well as the third-straight year the Titans and Crusaders will meet.
UDM is 2-1 in the series with a pair of big wins in an 83-17 decision in 1978 - when Madonna was a club team - as well as a 90-43 tally in 2012.
The 17 points allowed in 1978 is still a school record for Detroit as is the 7-of-48 (14.5%) shooting that the Titans held the Crusaders too.
ABOUT THE CRUSADERSMadonna enters the game at 6-2 overall and 5-1 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. The Crusaders have won three in a row, including an 89-87 overtime triumph at home versus Lawrence Tech on Saturday.
This is the first of two-straight games against Division I opponents for Madonna as it travels to Eastern Michigan tomorrow.
Michele Hayes - an Oakland transfer - leads the team in scoring at 19.3 ppg., and 4.0 apg. Lindsey Hernden is tallying 13.4 ppg., 3.9 rpg., and 3.4 apg., while Rachel Melcher tops the team at 9.6 rpg.
The Crusaders are averaging 72.9 ppg., and allowing just 67.1 ppg.
COACH RAD LOOKING FOR A RECORDHead coach
Autumn Rademacher '97 has recorded 91 victories and is currently tied for second in school history with DeWayne Jones (91, 1983-90) and just three away from breaking the Titan record held by her coach in college Fred Procter (93, 1990-96).
It is not like Coach Rademacher took over a top of the line program as Detroit was coming off back-to-back last-place finishes and just 11 total wins from 2006-08.
In her first six years, Detroit has recorded three winning seasons, a pair of 20-win campaigns, five years with a conference tournament victory, a trip to the WNIT in 2012 - the first postseason action for UDM since 1997 - and the school's first postseason title since 1981 when the Titans won the WBI in 2013.
VERSUS NON-CONFERENCE FOESDetroit is 18-7 against non-conference foes at home dating back to the 2009-10 season.
UDM VS. NON-DIVISION I SCHOOLSDetroit is 41-6 all-time against non-Division I schools with the last loss coming last year against the Crusaders.
AGAINST THE GREAT LAKES STATEUDM is 106-72 all-time against teams from the Michigan, and 12-12 since the start of the 2010-11 season.
BIG TIME DEFENSEThe Titans have played some tough defense to start the 2014-15 season, holding teams to just 65.8 points per game, down from last season's 80.5 ppg.
In the Horizon League, Detroit is currently fifth in scoring defense as well as fifth in steals (7.5).
Detroit had one of its best defensive games in school history in defeating Marygrove, 88-46, in the home opener on Nov. 16.
The 46 points allowed was the fewest since Detroit downed Youngstown State at home, 62-48, during the 2012-13 campaign.
The 25.0% (16-of-64) shooting by Marygrove was the lowest UDM has held a team since Milwaukee's 22.8% on Mar. 2, 2013, while the 16 made field goals was the fewest by a visiting team since that YSU contest.
Detroit held IPFW to just 29.7% shooting its last time out, including 28.5% (12-of-42) in the second half and overtime and 16.7% (2-of-12) in the extra session alone.
FROM DOWNTOWNDetroit was 11-of-21 from behind the arc at IPFW its last time out, the most three's UDM has had in a game since netting 11 against Chicago State last season.
The 11 treys were also part of a season-high 30 made field goals, the most since recording 30 against Wright State last year.
33 FOR ROSIERedshirt sophomore
Rosanna Reynolds had her shooting shoes on at IPFW as she connected on a career-best seven 3-pointers en route to a career-high 33 points in the overtime win over the Mastodons.
She became just the 18th Titan in school history to score 30 or more in a game, with the 33 points the most since teammate
Ellisha Crosby had 33 against Eastern Michigan last season.
The seven 3-pointers were a career best by four over her previous high and the most since
Senee Shearer nailed seven against Madonna last season.
The seven treys were also one away from the school record of eight that Daphne Smith (8-of-11) had versus Butler on Jan. 10, 1987.
IF ONE IS GOOD, TWO IS BETTERRedshirt sophomore
Rosanna Reynolds and sophomore
Haleigh Ristovski each tallied a double-double in the overtime win at IPFW.
Reynolds ended the contest with a career-high 33 points and career-best 11 rebounds for her second career double-double (she had 17 points and 10 rebounds vs. Madonna in 2012).
Meanwhile, Ristovski scored a season-high 13 points and grabbed a career-high 11 caroms for her first career double-double.
Both players also added four assists.
MAKING TEAMS PAYMaking free throws is all about taking advantage of the free ones and the Titans have done that this season.
UDM is currently third in the Horizon League in free throw shooting at 68.6% (70-of-102).
GETTING TO 70The Titans are 51-19 when they score 70 or more points as well as 19-5 when they score 80 or more under head coach Autumn Rademacher. UDM has also eclipsed 90 seven times under Coach Rad, with a season-high 96 against Eastern Michigan last year.
I THINK SHE'S BACKRedshirt sophomore
Rosanna Reynolds looks to be back in form after posting her fourth-straight double-digit scoring effort and fifth of the season with a career-high 33 points at IPFW.
She started the year netting 17 points at Michigan, led Detroit with 15 points at Ohio and netted 10 apiece against St. Bonaventure and at Niagara before last games career performance.
The only game she has not scored at least 10 was in the blowout win over Marygrove as she had nine in just 19 minutes of action.
On the year, she is currently fourth in the Horizon League with 15.7 ppg., while registering 2.8 apg., tied for 15th.
Reynolds is also leading the HL in three-point field goals per game (3.0), and with her 18 three-point baskets on the season, she is well on her way of topping the 25 she had as a freshman in 2012-13.
ALL-AROUND GAMESophomore
Haleigh Ristovski continues to show her full basketball skills this season on both the offensive and defensive end of the floor.
She might not be the typical frontcourt player, but she has grabbed at least eight rebounds in four of UDM's six games, including a career-high 11 her last time out against IPFW.
The 11 rebounds along with her season-high 13 points gave Ristovski her first career double-double.
She has tied her career high with five assists three times this year (at Niagara and against Marygrove and St. Bonaventure) and is leading the team and tied for fifth in the Horizon League at 4.0 assists per game.
Her decision-making is never in doubt as she is currently the conference leader with a 2.0 assist-to-turnover ratio (24 A, 12 TO), and that is after recording a 2.7 mark (47 A, 17 TO) as a freshman.
ELLISHA IN DOUBLE DIGITSSenior
Ellisha Crosby was back in double figures with 12 points at Ohio and 16 against St. Bonaventure.
She has now played in 18 career games for the Titans and has scored in double digits 14 times.
In her Titan career, Crosby is tallying 14.8 ppg., including 9.3 ppg., this year.
LITTLE D BRINGS BIG OFreshman
Darianne Seward might have been making her first collegiate start in her first career game at Michigan, but you would never know it by the way the rookie played.
The 5-4 guard from Ohio ended the day with a game-high 19 points - 17 in the first half alone - along with three rebounds, three assists and a steal.
She had eight points in the first six minutes and 11 in the first eight to guide UDM to an 11-point halftime lead against the Wolverines.
The 19 points in a collegiate debut was the most by a Titan true freshman since the 2011-12 season and the most by a Titan true freshman guard since Titan Hall-Of-Famer and the school's all-time leading scorer Cassandra Pack netted 23 at home against Bowling Green to open the 1983-84 campaign.
She is currently second on the team in scoring and 12th in the Horizon League at 11.8 ppg., posting double digits in scoring in four of Detroit's six games.
Seward is also eighth in the HL in free throw percentage (75.9%) connecting on 22-of-29, tied for the fifth most free throws as well as tied for the fifth most attempts among conference peers.
NO "MINNIE ME" HERESophomore
Minisha Frederick-Childress might stand just 5-4, but she can crash the boards witnessed by her season-high seven rebounds at IPFW on Dec. 2.
The seven boards were just two away from her career high of nine set against Milwaukee as a freshman.
Last season, she played in 25 games with 13 starts and averaged 5.2 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game, while scoring in double digits six times, all in the last 11 games of the season.
She had a season high 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting, while also collecting a season-best five steals, at UIC and had 10 points, four rebounds and a season-high seven assists at Oakland.
HELPING OUR CAUSEWith a strong group of guards, you would expect that Detroit would be able to take care of the ball and create a lot of assists and the Titans have done just that.
Detroit is fifth in the Horizon League in assists at 14.2 per game as well as third in the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.0). The red, white and blue is one of just three teams in the league to have more assists than turnovers on the year, and has committed a season-low nine turnovers in two of the past three games.
The Titans also finished with 22 assists against Marygrove in their home opener on Nov. 16, the most by Detroit since it recorded 20 against Eastern Michigan last year.
LET'S PLAY MOREDetroit played its first overtime game of the season at IPFW on Dec. 2, downing the Mastodons in come-from-behind fashion, 81-74.
UDM is now 14-13 all-time in overtime games and 5-5 under head coach Autumn Rademacher.
GLASS WORKUDM outrebounded Marygrove, 58-30, in the home opener on Nov. 16. The 58 rebounds was the most by the Titans since they grabbed 70 against Central Michigan on Feb. 9, 1980.
HALEIGH'S SUCH A CROOKSophomore
Haleigh Ristovski came away with a career-high five steals in the season opener at Michigan, besting her previous high of three last year against Lawrence Tech.
URBANICK FINDING HER STROKEFreshman
Nicole Urbanick was 7-of-15 (46.6%) from the field in the first three games, but the rookie has really showed her long range shooting ability in the last three contests.
Against St. Bonaventure, she was 4-of-8 from the field with three 3-pointers and finished with a season-high 11 points and she then added another three treys ending with nine points at Niagara.
On the season, she is averaging 6.7 points per game - fifth on the team - , while leading the squad in shooting at 45.5% (15-of-33).
SEASON #38 IN THE MOTOR CITYThe 2014-15 season marks the 38th year of Titan women's basketball hoops at the University of Detroit Mercy as the red, white and blue have posted a 549-528 (.510) record in its first 37 seasons.
Detroit is also in its 35th season as a member of the Horizon League and is the eldest member in the conference by 14 years over Cleveland State, Green Bay, Milwaukee, UIC, and Wright State, who all joined in 1994 with the Titans entering in 1980.
In its history, Detroit has won four postseason tournaments claiming the State-Large College Tournament Championship in 1979, 1980, 1981 as well as the Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI) in 2013.
