DETROIT (4/2/2014) -- There will be one Titan on display at the Final Four as senior
Senee Shearer was invited to take part in the 2014 Nashville Combine this weekend.
"This is a great opportunity for me," said Shearer. "My goal my whole life was to play professionally and now I will get a chance to show what I can do in front of scouts and agents from all over."
The combine is routinely held during the NCAA Women's Final Four, NCAA Women's Coaching Convention and WNBA Meetings. Some of the scouts on hand will be from the WNBA, International European Women's Professional Basketball Leagues, the Women's Blue-Chip Basketball League (WBCBL) and International Basketball Federation (FIBA) agents.
Shearer was named the Team MVP after an outstanding finish to her collegiate career as she set a Titan single season (97) and overall record (231) in 3-pointers. She ended her four-year career with 1,248 points for 13th in the school record book and had one of the best offensive seasons in school history leading the team and finishing third in the Horizon League – and 44th in the country - in scoring at 19.5 ppg. Her 19.5 ppg., and 586 total points were also both third in school history.
She was named Second Team All-Horizon League by the conference and also by College Sports Madness. During the season, she was named to the 2014 Nancy Lieberman Award Watch List by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, which recognizes the top point guard in Division I college basketball.
On the season, she recorded 3.21 three-pointers per game to lead the league and rank eighth in Division I, while standing sixth in the conference in three-point field-goal percentage (34.0%). She led the Titans with 1.0 steals per game and also averaged 3.6 rebounds – fourth on the team – and 2.2 assists per game – second on the squad.
Shearer tallied double digits in scoring in 28 of Detroit's 30 games, including reaching the 20-point plateau 17 times and setting a school record with 20 or more points in eight-straight games. In her career, she netted 20 or more 25 times with a career-high 29 at Western Michigan and at Oakland.
Off the court, she was a member of the University of Detroit Mercy Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and was one of the organization's officers for 2013-14 serving as the secretary. She has also been a member of the Detroit Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
Under head coach Autumn Rademacher, three Titans have gone on to play professionally in Brigid Mulroy (Germany, 2010),
Demeisha Fambro (Portugal, 2013) and
Yar Shayok (France, 2013).
