Men's Basketball Signs Shy McClelland to National Letter of Intent

DETROIT (4/21/14) — University of Detroit Mercy head men's basketball coach Ray McCallum has announced the signing of Shyheim "Shy" McClelland (Milwaukee, Wis./Mesa CC) to a National Letter of Intent on Monday. McClelland, who has two years of eligibility remaining, is the third recruit in Detroit's 2014 class.

"We're thrilled that Shy is joining the Titan family," said McCallum. "He's a young man who is very familiar with the Horizon League being from Milwaukee and has played against some great competition. He's a point guard and leader who will bring a tough hard nosed competitive spirit to our team."

McClelland is a 6-foot, 180-pound point guard from Milwaukee, Wis., where he attended Northwest Secondary High School, before attending Mesa Community College in Phoenix, Ariz. In his first year at Mesa, McClelland helped lead the Thunderbirds to a 24-7 overall record.

Last season, McClelland averaged 15.5 points, 5.3 assists and 4.5 rebounds in 30 games played. His efforts earned him First Team All-ACCAC (Arizona Community College Athletic Conference) after leading the Thunderbirds to a regular season and Region I title with a 26-5 overall record. He was also named the Region I co-MVP after leading the T-Birds to a 20-2 conference record.

McClelland will join already signed recruits Jaleel Hogan and Aaron Foster-Smith on the 2014-15 Detroit Titans roster.
