Summer Camp Season is Officially Open at UDM

DETROIT (6/9/2014) -- The 2013-14 season might be officially over for the University of Detroit Mercy student athletes, but that just means its summer time and the camp season is here as UDM hosted a pair of events over the weekend.

On Saturday, the Detroit women's basketball team held its' Annual Team Shootout, which brought a number of teams from the Metro Detroit area to historic Calihan Hall and Dick Vitale Court.

Each team was guaranteed three games and the action was non-stop as the young athletes gave it all they had on the Titans' home court.

"The Titan Team Shootout was a great event and the participation and competition was outstanding," said UDM assistant women's basketball coach Kesha Blanton. "We had great talent on campus from Ohio, Michigan, and Canada and we hope a lot of those players will be future Titans."

On Sunday, the men's lacrosse team took center stage with its Summer Prospect Camp. Titan Field was alive with over 60 high school students showing off their skills, while also learning some new tricks from the UDM coaching staff and players.

"I was extremely happy with not only the turnout, but the level of play by everyone at the camp," said interim UDM men's lacrosse head coach Chris Kolon. "It's always a great event that brings a lot of people to campus as we continue to grow the game of lacrosse in the Motor City."

Both camps brought plenty of future student athletes, parents and friends to campus to see first hand what Detroit has to offer, and with the weather cooperating for most of the time, it made for a great start to camp season.
