DETROIT (8/29/2014) -- University of Detroit Mercy head women's basketball coach
Autumn Rademacher '97 completed her staff for the 2014-15 season as she announced the hiring of
AJ Burton as a graduate assistant coach.
"AJ is a bright, young, and energetic individual who comes from a basketball family and we are very excited to add him to the Detroit women's basketball program," said Coach Rademacher. "He has played the game collegiately and has already displayed a tremendous work ethic on and off the court. We are looking forward to AJ helping the women's basketball program get back on top of the Horizon League."
"I am excited for this opportunity," said Burton. "It was something I was looking forward to since I graduated and I can't wait to get going and help this team win."
Burton is native of Brown City, Michigan, who concluded his playing career at Rochester College in 2014. He played two seasons with the Warriors, helping the squad to a United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) national championship in 2013. He was also an USCAA Honorable Mention All-American in 2014.
He started his collegiate career at St. Clair County Community College and earned the Leadership Award for the Skippers.
He has also worked as a camp counselor and as a coach and official for elementary basketball and is a member of the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan (BCAM).
He graduated from Rochester College with a bachelor's degree in sports management and is currently working on his masters in liberal studies at UDM.
The Titans have already announced their non-conference schedule with five home games on the schedule and the Horizon League slate should be announced in the near future.
