DETROIT (1/28/15) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team will continue Horizon League play at home with a game against Youngstown State on Thursday, Jan. 29 at historic Calihan Hall. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET and will be televised locally on Comcast 900 and nationally on ESPN3 with Ryan Ermanni making the call.

LAST OUTINGThe University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team saw Wright State score the first eight points of the game and despite a number of rallies in the contest, the Titans were upended by the Raiders, 64-53, on Monday night at historic Calihan Hall.

The loss drops Detroit to 10-12 on the season and 3-4 in the Horizon League, while Wright State moved to 11-10, 3-4 in league play.

Anton Wilson led Detroit with 15 points.
Paris Bass had seven points and a pair of blocks and
Youssoupha Kane added six points, five rebounds and three steals.

The Titans shot 40.0 percent from the field (18-of-45) and 38.9 percent (7-of-18) from the three-point line, but the Raiders shot 45.5 percent (20-of-44) with 11 of those from behind the arc.

ABOUT YOUNGSTOWN STATEThe Youngstown State men's basketball team outscored UIC by 15 points in the second half to beat the Flames 77-64 on Saturday night at the Beeghly Center. Bobby Hain, Marcus Keene, DJ Cole and Osandai Vaughn all scored in double figures for the Guins.

In the second half, the Penguins (10-13 overall and 1-7 in the Horizon League) shot 68.2 percent from the field, including 5-of-7 from beyond the 3-point arc. The Guins helped themselves from the free-throw line as well making 16-of-19 (75.8 percent) attempts in the second.Â

YSU made 15 field goals in the second half after knocking down just seven in the first 20 minutes.

Hain and Keene each scored 14 points in the second half while Cole added 13 to lead the way. The trio combined for 41 of the Penguins' 51 points in the final 20 minutes.

For the game, YSU shot 52.4 percent (22-of-42) while UIC finished at 36.2 percent (21-of-58). YSU made 25-of-33 free-throw attempts (75.8 percent) on the night.
SERIES WITH THE PENGUINSThis will be the 37th meeting between Detroit and Youngstown State, with the Titans leading the all-time series 29-7. The teams split both of their meetings last year with Detroit winning the last meeting 83-81 in overtime at historic Calihan Hall.

BASS NAMED HL FRESHMAN OF THE WEEKUDM guard/forward
Paris Bass was named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week for the fourth time this season on Monday, Jan. 26 following his performance last week against a pair of first-place teams.

Bass won his League-best fourth Freshman of the Week award this season after leading the Titans to a 1-1 week. The lengthy freshman forced overtime in Detroit's non-conference game at Northeastern - currently tied for first in the Colonial Athletic Association - with a dunk with 28 seconds remaining. In overtime, Bass scored nine of the first 11 points as the Titans dominated the extra five minutes to win, 81-69. Bass finished the contest with a career-high tying 19 points, while shooting 8-of-14 from the field.

His dunk in the closing seconds was saluted with a
No. 2 ranking on SportsCenter's "Top 10 Plays" on ESPN.

On Friday night, Bass again tied his career-high with 19 points, shooting 7-of-13 from the field. He also pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season and first in Horizon League play.
Bass continues to pace all freshmen in the League in scoring (11.8), rebounding (5.8), steals (1.2) and blocked shots (21).Â
FORMER CUB GROWING UPFormer U of D Jesuit High School star
Chris Jenkins is beginning to make his mark as part of the UDM men's basketball team. The sophomore guard/forward recorded his first collegiate double-double last week with 13 points and 13 rebounds against Northeastern.

In two games on the road last week against first place teams Jenkins averaged 12.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game.

Through his first 13 games as a Titan, the former Cub is averaging 7.4 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.
HOWARD IS 24 AND RISINGThis season, Detroit senior forward
Juwan Howard Jr. became the 39th Titan to join the 1,000-point club and currently ranks 24th all-time with 1,215 points. Former Titan Jon Goode '08 is next on the list as he ranks 23rd overall with 1,227 points. Juwan Howard, Sr. scored 1,526 points at the University of Michigan from 1992-94 as part of the Fab Five.
