DETROIT (10/16/2015) -- The atmosphere was electric inside historic Calihan Hall as the University of Detroit Mercy Department of Athletics hosted Hoop Night In The D on Friday night.
 
The community and school event was the official kick off of the 2015-16 basketball season for UDM, hosted by the Voice of the Titans Dan Leach. All of those that came received a Dickey's Cup with some goodies in it as well as posters and schedule cards for the men's and women's basketball teams.
 
The night was full of non-stop action featuring a lip sync contest as well as a kid's slam dunk showdown to start the event off.
 
The night continued with a phenomenal routine put on by the Titan cheer and dance teams as they showed off all the hard work they have been putting in over the summer and early fall.
 
It was then time for the introduction of the men's and women's basketball teams as both teams came out to a floor, lighting the arena full of energy.
 
The teams then broke off into teams for a co-ed scrimmage and that was followed by a Hot Shot competition, which had four teams combined with a men's and women's players to hit three shots from around the key. The winning team was senior Anton Wilson and sophomore Nicole Urbanick, who went around the arc in less than a minute, sealing the victory with a shot from half court.
 
The men's slam dunk battle closed out the night as sophomore Paris Bass and redshirt freshman Aaron Foster-Smith made the finals, with Bass taking home the high honors.
 
 The Titans would like to thank all of those who came out and hope to see everyone in the building with the start of the season.
