DETROIT (10/2/2015) -- The Titans are currently getting ready for their first official team practice next week, but the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team has been just as busy off the court taking some time to visit a local school this week.
On Tuesday, members of the Titan squad were at Durfee Elementary-Middle School in the Motor City as the team took part in activities with the kids.
On hand were senior
Patrick Ackerman, junior
Matthew Grant and redshirt freshman
Aaron Foster-Smith.
"When they see these big basketball players, you see that look in their eyes and how much they listen and respond to you," said Ackerman. "It was great to get away from campus a little bit and just hand out with the little kids. We had a great time just talking to them and answering all their questions."
The team talked about the importance of school, staying on top of your work, time management also answered the student's questions on college and basketball.
"I remember when I was that young and having college players come into our school and how excited I was to see and talk to them," said Grant. "They wanted us to stay there and keep talking and play games and it was great to make them happy."
"It is a lot of fun going there and seeing all the kids and the excitement on their face," said Smith. "They really enjoyed us being there and spending time with them."
This is the first of several trips the team will make to local schools as well as other community service projects.
