#TitanTuesday: Aaron Foster-Smith

We are less than a week away from the start of the season and the Titans have been busy at practice. Redshirt freshman Aaron Foster-Smith sat down with DetroitTitans.com for a set of questions in a feature called #TitanTuesday.

Foster-Smith sat out last season and has been busy at practice for over a year, waiting to make his college debut. At nearby Truman High School, he finished his high school career as the all-time leader in scoring, rebounding and double-doubles (32), totaling 1,312 points and 634 rebounds in his career.

How Excited Are You For The Season?
I am very excited. After sitting out last season, I just want to play and get that part over with and make my debut.

How Tough Was It Sitting Out Last Season?
It was one of the toughest things I ever had to go through. When we won games, it was ok because we won obviously but when we lost, especially the close games, you always wonder if you were playing, maybe you could have helped win that game. The losses hurt more when you can't play, and I am also an old teammate of Paris (Bass) so I want to go out there and play with him.

On What He Learned Though His Redshirt Season?
I talked to Paris (Bass) a lot about redshirting and he told me it is not that bad. One thing he told me was to keep working hard on my game and my academics so that is what I did. When the guys were on the road, I was back here working and getting ready for this season.

How Has The Team Looked In Practice?
We have really come together. I think we are a very close team, maybe closer than last year and you can see that when we scrimmage and when we practice.

How Does It Feel Knowing You Can Win A Championship Right Here In Detroit This Season?
It is a big motivator for all of us knowing that the Horizon League Championship is in Detroit. My family is close by so they can come to all my home games and with the championship downtown, they will be there too. It is definitely motivating all of us that we could win a championship here.

What Are You Majoring In?
I am a Social Work major. I want to pursue a basketball career when I am done here, but I want to be able to work with kids and juvenile delinquents and help them.

How Did You Get Started Playing Basketball?
I was actually one of the smaller kids on my block, but I just got a hoop when I was six or seven. All the kids would then come down and play so I have been competing against bigger kids right from the start, and I just loved playing.
