Detroit is 1-1 on the year with a win over Central State in the season opener and a tough setback at Pittsburgh last Friday.

DETROIT VS. UM-DEARBORN
This is the second career regular season meeting between Detroit and UM-Dearborn as the Titans won the only other match-up, 106-51, in Calihan Hall two years ago.

Three current Titans took part in that game as senior Anton Wilson netted his career high of 21 on 8-of-9 shooting, including 4-of-5 from three. Junior Jarod Williams had 12 points, four rebounds and four assists, while junior Matthew Grant posted 10 points and a career-high seven assists.

ABOUT THE WOLVERINES
Michigan-Dearborn started the year with three-straight wins, but has lost two in a row and four of its last five. The lone victory in that stretch was a 101-88 decision over Marygrove.

The Wolverines are coming off a 67-56 setback at Indiana Tech on Saturday.

UM-Dearborn is a young team featuring eight freshmen and nine underclassmen on its 14-man roster.

Junior Marcus Williams leads the team in scoring at 20.8 points per game. Freshman Xavier Crofford is tallying 17.1 ppg., 3.8 rpg., and has a team-best 10 steals, while sophomore Jason Penn is averaging 12.3 ppg., and has a team-high 6.3 rpg., and 15 blocks.

The Wolverines are fifth in the WHAC (Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference) in scoring at 75.8 points per game, but are allowing 72.1 points, eighth in the league.

LAST TIME OUT
Senior Anton Wilson and the rest of the Titans came to play on Friday night, and some hot shooting gave Detroit a second-half lead, but Pittsburgh was able to mount a rally to down UDM, 95-79, at the Peterson Events Center.

Wilson tallied a season-high 20 points, while sophomore Jaleel Hogan posted a career-best 16 points and five rebounds. Senior Carlton Brundidge had 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds and four assists, and junior Chris Jenkins added nine points.

Detroit was down by as many as 13 in the first half, 25-12, but came back to make it a one-possession game on a couple of occasions before going into the break down 46-41.

Detroit came out on fire in the second half, hitting six of its first eight shots to go on an 11-6 run and jump out in front, 53-52.  The Panthers took the advantage right back and led, 56-53, when Hogan got inside for two more to make it a one-point game.

Pittsburgh answered with an 8-0 run, and the Panthers would eventually push their lead to double digits the rest of the way.

LOOKING AHEAD
A couple of road games are on the docket as the Titans travel to Oral Roberts on Saturday, Nov. 28, and to No. 17/17 Vanderbilt on Dec. 2.

111 YEARS OF TITAN BASKETBALL
The 2015-16 season marks the 111th year of collegiate basketball at the University of Detroit Mercy as the Tigers – yes, Tigers - beat Collegiate, 18-7, in the first official Detroit basketball game.

Until 1919, the then University of Detroit athletic teams were known as the Tigers. In the fall of 1919, the Detroit Free Press' sportswriter Stan Brink, who was covering football for the paper, thought that a good nickname for the team would be the Titans.

In Greek mythology, the Titans were a class of oversized people who happened to have almost perfect physiques.

In its 111 years (two years records are missing in 1907-08 and 1908-09) Detroit is 1,378-1152 (.544) all-time with two regular season Horizon League Championships (1998, 1999) and three conference tournament titles (1994, 1999, 2012).

UDM has also made six NCAA tournaments (1962, 1977, 1979, 1998, 1999, 2012) and seven NIT appearances (1960, 1961, 1965, 1978, 2001, 2002, 2013).

EIGHTH SEASON FOR MCCALLUM
Entering his eighth season at the University of Detroit Mercy, head coach Ray McCallum has rebuilt the Titans from the bottom of the Horizon League when he took over, to title contenders and a Horizon League championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2012.

During his first five years at the helm at Detroit, the Titans increased their conference win total in every season (2, 9, 10, 11, 12).

His 115 career wins is fourth in school history behind Bob Calihan (306), Perry Watson (261) and Lloyd Brazil (185).

THE PRESEASON
Detroit did not play any exhibitions this season as it elected to take part in two closed scrimmages against a pair of Division I programs.

CALIHAN HOSPITALITY
The Titans have made life tough for non-conference opponents visiting Calihan Hall as Detroit is 77-19 in its last 96 home games against non-league schools.

VERSUS IN-STATE FOES
Detroit has had a great history when it comes to taking on other teams from the Great Lakes State.

UDM is 281-152 all-time against other schools from the state of Michigan, including 261-83 versus programs outside of the two Big Ten institutions.

AGAINST NON-DIVISION I FOES
Detroit has taken care of business against non-Division I schools as the Titans have won 29 in a row against them.

The last loss was against Wayne State in 1993 in former coach and Titan Hall-Of-Famer Perry Watson's head coaching debut.

In its history, UDM is 254-67 (.790) all-time versus non-division one schools.

WE LOVE THE 80'S
Did you know that Detroit is a remarkable 48-4 overall when scoring 80 or more points under head coach Ray McCallum

The Titans are even better outside of the Horizon League where they have a 24-1 record when reaching 80 points.

Year-by-Year Mark When Reaching 80
2015-16 (1-0)
2014-15 (6-0)
2013-14 (3-2)
2012-13 (14-1)
2011-12 (9-0)
2010-11 (8-1)
2009-10 (7-0)

GETTING HOT EARLY
Senior Anton Wilson recorded his third career 20-point game as he led Detroit with 20 markers at Pittsburgh his last time out.

He scored all 20 of his points in the first 20 minutes of play, the first Titan to score 20 in the first half since Nick Minnerath had 21 against Valparaiso on Jan. 17, 2013

It was also one point off his career high of 21 set against UM-Dearborn in 2013.

WHAT A START FOR CB
Senior Carlton Brundidge has jumped out to a quick start in his final year of collegiate eligibility.

Through two games, he leads the team with nine assists - against just two turnovers - and is tied for first in rebounding (6.5) and second in scoring (13.0).

He had 14 points in the season opener and followed that up with 12 points at Pittsburgh, the first time he has tallied back-to-back double-digit scoring performances since posting 15 against Cleveland State and 10 versus Green Bay in 2014 - a span of 40 games.

If he were to reach 10 points on Monday night, it would be the first time in his career that he will have tallied double digits in three-straight games.

#1 SHOOTING 3'S
Sharpshooting senior Anton Wilson is back for his final collegiate campaign. He appeared in all 33 games – with 16 starts as a junior – and averaged 8.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.

He shot 41.8 percent from behind the arc - a number that ranks sixth in school history - connecting on 56-of-134 from long distance.

With his four triples in the season opener, he passed Titan legend and 12-year NBA veteran Willie Green, and he is now eighth in school history with 127 career 3-pointers after knocking down another four at Pittsburgh.

He is also seventh in school history with a 40.4 career three-point field goal percentage.

MORE 3 NEWS
Senior Anton Wilson has started the season with back-to-back games hitting four 3-pointers and now has 12 career game with four or more treys.

He also has 65 career games with at least two 3-pointers and 20 games knocking down at least three triples.

EASY POINTS
Senior Anton Wilson is a career 82.8 percent shooter at the free throw line connecting on 72-of-87 career attempts.

He does not have enough free throw attempts to qualify for the school record book or his percentage would rank fourth in Titan history.

JA-LETHAL
Sophomore Jaleel Hogan is coming off his second-straight impressive offensive performance as he recorded a career-high 16 points at Pittsburgh. He was 7-of-12 from the field with five rebounds.

With his inside play, UDM was able to keep pace with Pittsburgh in the paint as the Panthers just narrowly outscored the Titans, 40-38, in points in the paint.

In the season opener, he filled up the stat sheet with 10 points, six rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal and is tied for the team lead in rebounding (6.5) and is also tied for third in scoring (13.0) through two games.

PAINT MAN
With his strength inside, sophomore Jaleel Hogan is uncanny in the low post, showcased by his career 61.2 percent field-goal percentage.

WHAT A DEBUT
Freshman Josh McFolley didn't have to wait long before he made an impact as he scored the first basket of the year for the Titans and led Detroit with 17 points in the season-opening victory over Central State.

McFolley was 7-of-13 from the field, including 3-of-8 from three, finishing with a team-high 17 points in just 26 minutes of action.

He is the first Detroit netter to lead his team in scoring in his Titan debut since sophomore Chase Simon registered 17 at California in 2009. He is also the first freshman to lead the team in scoring in his collegiate debut since Jerry Davis had 18 against Toledo in 1978.

Through two games, he is third on the team in scoring at 13.0 ppg., shooting 45.8 percent from the field (11-of-24).

NON-CONFERENCE TOUGHNESS
Detroit's non-conference schedule is as tough as anyone in the Horizon League.

The non-conference slate features a total of 11 games -- including six regular-season home dates.

Overall, the non-conference schedule has six teams that posted 20 or more wins in 2014-15 - with two other foes garnering 19 – while six of the nine Division I opponents made a trip to the postseason last year. Eight of the nine Division I schools had winning records and combined to tally a 176-125 overall mark (58.4 percent) last season.

Non-Conference Foes 2014-15 Record
Bowling Green 21-12
Central State 18-12
Eastern Michigan 21-14
Northeastern 23-12
Oral Roberts 19-15
Pittsburgh 19-15
Toledo    20-13
UCF 12-18
UM-Dearborn 11-19
Vanderbilt 21-14
Western Kentucky 20-12

HL SCHEDULE PUZZLE
The conference schedule is interesting considering the Titans play their first five league games at home and seven of their 10 contests in January on Dick Vitale Court.

Detroit will need to get off to a quick start as it ends the year with four-straight road games, as well as six of its final eight on the road.

I PASS TOO
Sophomore Jaleel Hogan already has three assists this season. As a freshman last year, he had just eight in his 33 games played.

GIBSON PROTECTING THE RIM
Freshman Jalen Gibson has seen limited action in the first two games, but that has not stopped him from showing off some of his defensive skills.

He currently leads the team with five blocks with three against Central State and two at Pittsburgh - where he played just two minutes.

GERALD'S GLASS
Freshman Gerald Blackshear had a fine start to his career as he posted a game-high 10 rebounds to go with six points, three assists, three steals and a block against Central State in the season opener.

He just had four more boards at Pittsburgh and is currently tied for first on the team with 6.5 rebounds per night.

DEFENSIVE NUMBERS
It was not all about the offense in the season opener as the Titans posted some good stats defensively.

Detroit held Central State to 32.4 percent shooting, including just 4-of-18 (22.2%) from three, while outrebounding the Marauders, 52-35.
The Titans had nine blocks, the most since Detroit swatted away nine against Youngstown State in last year's Horizon League Championship first round game.

The red, white and blue also recorded nine steals, the most since taking nine away at Oakland last year.

OFFENSIVE ATTACK
The Titans put up 88 points in their home opener, the most in a home opener since cruising past Northern Michigan, 88-53, to start the 2012-13 campaign.

Detroit also connected on 11 from behind the arc, the most since hitting 12 in a 109-59 win over Aquinas last season.

UDM was also 30-of-56 from the field with the 30 field goals the most since knocking in 30 at Youngstown State last season, while the 53.6 field-goal percent is the highest shooting mark since UDM tallied 68.2 percent in that contest at YSU.

NO SHORTAGE OF OFFENSE
The Titans have quite a few coaches who have been known to score a few baskets in their days.

Head coach Ray McCallum ended his collegiate career at Ball State as the MAC's all-time leading scorer with 2,109 points.

Assistant coach Steve Payne tallied 1,440 points in his college days at Ball State, while assistant coach Jermaine Jackson is 21st in school history with 1,341 points.

Meanwhile, assistant coach Jay Smith still holds the Michigan high school state record for scoring with 2,841 points at Mio Au Sable High School.

WIERD STAT
The Titans committed 25 turnovers in the season opener, but still came away with a win.

The 25 turnovers were the most since UDM had 26 against Shawnee State on Dec. 28, 2009, a game it won, 82-53, and a season in which the Titans finished 20-14 overall.

Detroit did clean that up committing just eight at Pitt its last time out.
