#DetroitsCollegeTeam Hosts Cleveland State on ESPNU

GAMEDAY CENTRAL

DETROIT (2/11/2015)
-- The University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team will play in front of a national television audience on ESPNU when the Titans host Horizon League foe Cleveland State on Friday, Feb. 13.
 
The game will tip-off at 8 p.m. ET and will also be available on WatchESPN.com and the WatchESPN app on mobile devices with Wayne Randazzo and Brooke Weisbrod making the call.
 
This will mark the third time this season that the Titans will appear on ESPNU and the 20th game of the season on the ESPN Family of Networks.
 
Friday will also be UAW Ford Community Night at Calihan Hall.

LAST OUTING
Jarod Williams set a career high with 18 points and four Titans were in doubles figures, but UIC was red hot shooting all day long as the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team was upended, 83-73, on Sunday afternoon in Calihan Hall.
 
The loss dropped the Titans to 11-15, 4-7 in the Horizon League, while UIC moved to 6-19, 2-8 in league play.
 
Juwan Howard Jr. also had 18 points, while Paris Bass and Jaleel Hogan netted 12 points apiece.
 
Detroit shot 53.8 percent from the field with seven 3-pointers, but the Flames were at 58.7 percent with 12 triples.
 
UDM led by one, 64-63, with 7:17 left when the Flames went ahead for good on the strength of a 9-0 run, resulting in a 72-64 lead with 4:04 left. A jumper by Bass trimmed it to six, but UIC then scored five in a row for its largest lead of the day, 77-66, with 1:45 on the clock.
 
The Titans cut it to five, 78-73, with under a minute left, but UIC made 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch to earn the win.
 
ABOUT CLEVELAND STATE
Charlie Lee scored a season-high 27 points and Cleveland State shot a season-best 61 percent from the field, becoming the first team in the Horizon League to win nine games with an 88-72 victory over Wright State on Saturday afternoon at the Wolstein Center.
 
The Vikings improved to 15-10 overall and 9-2 in the league, one-half game ahead of Valparaiso and Green Bay for first place. The Raiders fell to 11-13 overall (3-7 HL).
 
Lee hit 7-of-11 from the field and all 12 of his free throws, scoring the second most points in a game in his career. Anton Grady added 22 points and four rebounds, while Trey Lewis scored 15 points and Andre Yates added 10 off the bench.
 
Marlin Mason finished with six points and eight rebounds, while Kaza Keane scored six points with three assists.
 
The 88 points were a season high for the Vikings who hit 30-of-49 from the field.
 
SERIES WITH THE VIKINGS
This will be the 59th meeting between Detroit and Cleveland State, with the Titans leading the all-time series 37-21. The Vikings won the first meeting this year 70-66 at the Wolstein Center; even after Detroit freshman sensation recorded his second double-double of the season with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
 
PARIS OVER 300
UDM freshman sensation Paris Bass recently became the 15th Titan to score 300 points during his rookie campaign. Bass enters Friday's game with 318 points, which is seven points more than the Titans all-time leading scorer Rashad Phillips '01, who scored 311 during his freshman season.
 
The last Titan freshman to score 300 or more points during his rookie season was Ray McCallum, who finished with 446 points in 2010.
 
HOWARD IS 21st OVERALL
This season, Detroit senior forward Juwan Howard Jr. became the 39th Titan to join the 1,000-point club and is currently 21st all-time on the list with 1,295 points. Former Titan Jermaine Jackson '99, who was honored during Sunday's game with the John Conti Award, sits at number 20 on the list with 1,341 points.
 
Juwan Howard, Sr. scored 1,526 points at the University of Michigan from 1992-94 as part of the Fab Five.
 
2015 HL FIRST-ROUND TICKETS AVAILABLE
The 2015 Horizon League Men's Basketball Championship begins Tuesday (March 3) with two first-round games on campus sites. Detroit, which is currently holding on to the fifth seed, could be one of the two teams to host a home game in the first-round at historic Calihan Hall.
 
If the Titans host a first-round game all tickets will be available for $5 each. Tickets are currently available to be pre-ordered and will be sold, as soon as Detroit knows it is hosting a first-round game. This game is not included in the season ticket package; all in attendance will have to purchase a $5 general admission ticket for this game.

METRO SERIES UP NEXT
Detroit will visit Metro Series rival Oakland on Sunday, Feb. 15. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. at the O'rena, with a limited number of tickets available. Detroit won the first meeting this season 74-54 at historic Calihan Hall and currently owns an 8-4 lead in the Metro Series.
