DETROIT (5/21/2015) – The University of Detroit Mercy Department of Athletics announced Wednesday plans to install a four-sided, center-hung videoboard/scoreboard at historic Calihan Hall in time for the 2015-16 basketball season.
The centerpiece of the project is a four-sided, high-definition main videoboard that will hang directly above Dick Vitale Court, with full LED video capabilities, including video and instant replay. The display will be used for highlights, graphics, game presentation and other animation to enhance the fan gameday experience.
"We are very excited to announce the new state-of-the-art scoreboard with LED video capabilities," said UDM Director of Athletics
Robert C. Vowels, Jr. "It is part of our strategic initiative to completely transform the student-athlete and fan experience inside historic Calihan Hall. The new scoreboard and videoboard will be instrumental in all of our marketing and promotional efforts for our events on campus and inside Calihan Hall."
The announcement of the new videoboard came during the inaugural "Thank You Wednesday" celebration for all men's and women's basketball season ticket holders, which was held just outside Calihan Hall at the Titan Tennis Pavilion on the James K. Campbell Complex.
The event was free and open to all men's and women's basketball season ticket holders and prospective season ticket holders as a "Thank You" for their continued support.
Head men's basketball coach
Ray McCallum and newly appointed head women's basketball coach
Bernard Scott were also on hand for the announcement.
"This is a game-changer for our program and fans," said coach McCallum. "The new videoboard will improve the gameday atmosphere inside Calihan Hall and help us continue to recruit top-notch student-athletes in our ultimate quest to win championships."
"The addition of the new scoreboard is going to be huge for our program and is going to add a lot of life to our facility," said coach Scott. "It is going to help with recruiting and show off the facilities we have and the great atmosphere that Calihan Hall can present. The scoreboard is high quality, and it shows the commitment we have to athletics and making this the best place it can be."
Groundbreaking and the announcement of a company to carry out the project will be determined at a later date.
