ROCHESTER, Mich. (5/3/2015) -- University of Detroit Mercy senior
Colin Cashner was named the 2015 Horizon League Outdoor Athlete of the Year as the Titans concluded competition Sunday at the Horizon League Track & Field Outdoor Championships at Oakland University. Detroit finished fifth as a team with 58 points.
Cashner, who shattered the school record in the hammer this season and was ranked No. 18 nationally in the event, finished second in the hammer on Sunday. He was named the Athlete of the Year after a season in which he won the hammer three different times, including establishing a new event record at the Penn Relays. He was named the Horizon League Athlete of the Week twice during the season. He is the first Detroit student-athlete to win the Men's Outdoor Athlete of the Year since Matt Groh in 2003.
Cashner had a throw of 62.54 meters (205' 2") on his third attempt. He was edged by Youngstown State's Connor Neu, the Horizon League record holder in the event, who had a heave of 62.62 meters (205' 5"). Detroit senior
Eric Lewis, competing in his final event in a standout Detroit career, finished sixth for the Titans in the hammer with a throw of 52.39 meters (171' 10").
Sophomore
Khalil Parris earned two runner-up finishes for the Titans. He placed second in the 400 meter dash, earning a PR at 47.86. He also finished second in the 400 meter hurdles for the Titans in time of 53.30, which was just behind the winning time.
Junior
Joshua Carolin was second for Detroit in the 800 meter run. He had a time of 1:55.12. Sophomore
Ilia Panev finished fourth in the 110 meter hurdles in a time of 15.32. Panev also earned points for Detroit in the 400 meter hurdles, placing sixth in a time of 55.38.
Detroit's 4x400 meter relay squad placed third to earn six points for the Titans in the final event of the meet. The quartet of

Freshman
Ben Kendell, who won the 10,000 meter run Friday, placed sixth in the 5,000 meters on Sunday. He finished with a time of 15:25.65. Four other Titans competed in the 5,000 meters for Detroit. Freshman

Austin Wigent crossed in 16:41.41, senior
Ylli Alla ran a time of 17:01.38 and sophomore
Ryan Leahy posted a time of 17:22.08.

George Holman both ran in the 1,500 meter run for the Titans, earning times of 4:15.97 and 4:29.27, respectively.
