Women’s Basketball To Open 2015-16 Season At Home vs. Bradley

DETROIT (6/16/2015) -- University of Detroit Mercy head women's basketball coach Bernard Scott will make his debut in the red, white and blue on Friday, November 13, as the Titans host Bradley on Dick Vitale Court in historic Calihan Hall. The game will officially begin the 2015-16 season.

This year marks the 38th varsity campaign by the Titans as they began their program back in 1977-78.

The contest is only the second career match-up between the two schools with Bradley winning the first game, 78-75, on a neutral court at Ohio State's Wonder/Hostess Buckeye Classic on November 27, 2004.

Located in Peoria, Illinois, Bradley was 6-24 last season, including 5-13 in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Braves return most of their team from last year, but will look to replace their leading scorer and one of their top defenders in senior Michelle Young, who averaged 12.0 points and 2.1 steals in 2014-15.

Bradley also features a local connection in fourth-year assistant coach Skyler Young. Young was an assistant at Detroit in 2008-09. He is from Grand Rapids and also served as an assistant coach at Western Michigan.

Detroit is scheduled to host seven regular season non-conference games at Calihan Hall this season, followed by nine Horizon League contests. The ninth is due to the addition of Northern Kentucky to the league for the upcoming year.

For the next two weeks, the Titans will announce a home non-conference game every day rotating back and forth between the men's and women's basketball teams. Then, in early July, the full non-conference slate for both programs will be released.

New men's basketball season tickets are currently on sale starting at just $99. Men's basketball season ticket renewal information is also available by calling the Titan Ticket Office (313) 993-1700. With the purchase of full men's basketball tickets fans receive an "All Sports Pass" which allows them entry into all home women's basketball and men's lacrosse games.
