New Coach, New Scoreboard & Some New Rules For Women’s Basketball In 2015-16

Official NCAA Release

DETROIT (6/9/2015) --
Fans coming to see some University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball action next season in Calihan Hall will notice a few changes.

After a new head coach and a visible new scoreboard, the game itself will have a few new kinks as the NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel approved a couple of format changes. The biggest change is that women's basketball will use four 10-minute quarters instead of two 20-minute halves.

Rule changes were also passed regarding advancing the ball to the frontcourt in the last minute of the game and overtime –similar to the NBA – as well changes to the 10-second backcourt count, post defense positioning and arena music.

A couple of other proposals regarding timeouts and shot clock awareness will be discussed during a conference call on June 24.
