DETROIT (7/12/2015) -- Las Vegas is such a big city that it needed two Titans in town as former University of Detroit Mercy big man
Ugochukwu Njoku is suiting up for the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA Summer League.
Njoku – known as NJ in the Motor City - joins
Juwan Howard Jr. in the NBA summer classic as he is with the undefeated Miami Heat, who moved to 6-0 in July with a win late Saturday night. Howard and the Heat played five games in Orlando, Florida, before taking part in the Las Vegas NBA Summer League.
While Orlando gave each team five games and used a point system for scores in each quarter as well as wins to declare a victor, Las Vegas is set up in tournament style with each team getting three games before getting seeded for the playoffs. Last year, former Horizon League Player of the Year and current San Antonio guard
Ray McCallum led Sacramento to a title as he also garnered MVP honors.
Njoku and the Bucks did not play in Orlando or in the other summer league showcase out in Utah as they opened up play on Saturday night in Las Vegas. Njoku did not see any action in a loss to New Orleans as the team will return to action today, Sunday July 12, at 6:30 p.m., against the Spurs.
Njoku appeared in 64 games in his Titan career after he transferred from Oakland Community College. A fierce defender, he averaged 4.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.5 blocked shots and 1.1 steals per game. He led the team with 47 blocked shots, which ranked fifth in the Horizon League in 2013-14.
A dedicated student-athlete, he was a two-time member of the Detroit Athletic Director's Honor Roll and was selected the Dave DeBusschere Most Improved and the William Ebben Academic and Athletic Excellence Award winner at the end of the year banquet as a senior.
All NBA Summer League games are shown live on NBA TV and NBA.com.
