DETROIT (8/2/2015) --
The all-time leading scorer in Titan history Rashad Phillips joined the Voice of the Titans Dan Leach on 97.1 The Ticket, the home radio station for the University of Detroit Mercy, on Sunday morning, August 2.

He is promoting his Inaugural Boys Overnight College Regimen Camp, which will be held on the same court that he made a name for himself. It was on Dick Vitale Court inside historic Calihan Hall that Phillips dominated the hardwood.

Phillips starred for the red, white and blue between 1997-2001 and helped Detroit to one of its greatest periods in school history. During his time, Detroit won two regular season championships, a conference tournament title, recorded two wins in the NCAA Tournament and a made a run to the Big Apple with a Final Four appearance in the NIT.

The Titans posted 20 wins in all four of his years, including tying a school record with 25 victories three times.

When the 10th-seeded Detroit Titans defeated seventh-seeded St. John's, 66-64, in the first round of the 1998 NCAA Tournament, it was Detroit's first postseason win since 1978. The following season, 12th-seeded Detroit upset fifth-seeded and nationally-ranked UCLA, 56-53.

In 2001, Detroit had another amazing accomplishment going on the road three times to earn a trip to New York and the NIT Final Four. The Titans upended Bradley (68-49), Connecticut (67-61) and Dayton (59-42) to set up a meeting with Alabama at Madison Square Garden and the squad would take fourth place in the NIT that year.

Phillips averaged double digits in scoring in all four of his seasons and ended his career with 2,319 points – an average of 17.8 points per game – and is the only player in school history to register 1,500 points and 500 assists. As a junior, he scored 735 points and led UDM at 23.0 ppg., while as a  senior, he raised his point total to 785 points in averaging 22.4 ppg.

He was the MCC Newcomer of the Year as a freshman, a three-time First Team All-Horizon League honoree (1999, 2000, 2001) and two-time HL Player of the Year (2000, 2001) as well as Honorable Mention All-American by The Associated Press as a senior. His final campaign also saw him receive the Francis Pomeroy Naismith Award as the top senior basketball player in the country under six feet.

After his collegiate career had ended, he went on to play professionally, both in the United States and overseas. He was a first-round pick in the NBDL Draft in 2001 (No. 7 overall) and would later play in the NBA Summer League with Golden State and Charlotte.

His experiences overseas included three scoring titles and an MVP accolade.

In 2010, he was inducted into the Titan Hall-Of-Fame, while his No. 3 hangs from the rafters inside historic Calihan Hall.

Phillips will be hosting his Inaugural Boys Overnight College Regimen Camp at UDM from August 10-14. Spots are still available and for more information and to register, click here.
