INDIANAPOLIS (9/3/2015) -- A five-game homestand and seven home conference games in the month of January will open things up for the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team as the full Horizon League schedule was released Thursday.
Detroit will also have five additional home doubleheaders with the women's team in 2015-16 inside historic Calihan Hall.
The conference schedule will begin just as we head into the new year with the Titans hosting Youngstown State on Saturday, Jan. 2, and Cleveland State on Monday, Jan. 4. Both of those dates will also see the women's team in action.
Detroit will then get ready for a nationally-televised game as UDM welcomes UIC on Friday, Jan. 8, in a contest that will air on ESPN2 or ESPNU.
Two days later, the defending Horizon League champion Valparaiso Crusaders make a trip to the Motor City. Last season, the Titans knocked off Valpo, 63-60, on Dick Vitale Court to hand the Crusaders one of their three league losses.
Nearly a week later, the #MetroSeries moves to the hardwood as the Titans host Oakland on Saturday, Jan. 16. The two teams split last year's games with each winning on its home court as Detroit posted a 20-point victory, 74-54, in front of over 6,500 fans.
UDM will hit the road for three-straight contests after that playing at Wright State (Jan. 18), Milwaukee (Jan. 23) and Green Bay (Jan. 25).
Two more home games follow to end January as new league-rival Northern Kentucky is in the building on Friday, Jan. 29, before Wright State closes out the seven home games in a month on Sunday, Jan. 31.
All of those home games in January will mean that the Titans will end the season with six of eight on the road in February. The road lodging will begin in Ohio as both the men and women visit Cleveland State on Feb. 4 and Youngstown State on Feb. 6.
The last two home games of the year will feature the Wisconsin schools as Detroit matches up with Green Bay on Thursday, Feb. 11, and Milwaukee on Saturday, Feb. 13. Both of those games will be doubleheaders with the women's team as well and the game against the Panthers will also be Senior Day.
The Titans then embark on a four-game road trip traveling to Northern Kentucky (Feb. 16), UIC (Feb. 19), Valparaiso (Feb. 21) and Oakland (Feb. 26). The game against the Golden Grizzlies will also be nationally televised on either ESPN2 or ESPNU.
The Horizon League men's basketball championship will be played at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit from Saturday, March 5, through Tuesday, March 8. The tournament semifinals on Monday will both be televised on ESPNU, while Tuesday's championship game will be shown on ESPN at 7:00 p.m.
The conference schedule will give Detroit a total of 15 home games on the year in combination with its non-conference slate. Back in early July, Detroit announced its non-conference docket featuring 11 games, including match-ups with at Pittsburgh, Oral Roberts, Vanderbilt, Western Kentucky and Eastern Michigan and home dates against Central State, Michigan-Dearborn, Northeastern, Toledo, Bowling Green and Central Florida.
The times of all home games have not been set yet and will be fully released in the near future.
