Detroit Women's Basketball Schedule Set for 2015-16

2015-16 Detroit Women's Basketball Schedule

INDIANAPOLIS (9/4/2015) --
The University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball schedule for 2015-16 is now set after the Horizon League released the full conference slate on Friday. The Titans open with five of their first seven games at home, including three home doubleheaders inside historic Calihan Hall.

Detroit will play seven doubleheaders with the men's basketball team overall, five of them on Dick Vitale Court. Three of those doubleheaders come at home during January while the team is set to play in four straight doubleheaders -- two on the road and two at home -- in February.

"I'm looking forward to competing against quality teams in our league and getting ready to hopefully make a postseason run," first-year head coach Bernard Scott said. "Being a first-time head coach, I'm excited to get started and prepare our team for the upcoming season. The non-conference prepares us for the Horizon League schedule and the Horizon League schedule prepares us for the postseason."

The Titans open their league schedule with two home games in three days to open 2016. The squad begins Horizon League play on Jan. 2, hosting Youngstown State in Scott's first league game as head coach before welcoming Cleveland State to town on Jan. 4. Both games are doubleheaders with the men's basketball team and are also two of coach Scott's coaching stops.

Detroit hits the road for its first conference trip of the season on Jan. 7 for a clash with Valparaiso before visiting UIC on Jan. 9 in Chicago. The Titans then return home for three straight home contests, beginning with a Jan. 14 date with Wright State. The third of three home doubleheaders in January follows as the Titans host Northern Kentucky on Jan. 16.

The second year of the #MetroSeries between the two programs kicks off on Saturday, Jan. 23, at Calihan Hall with the Titans set to host the Golden Grizzlies in a 1:00 p.m. contest.

Six of the next eight games are away from Detroit as the Titans close out January with a road trip to Wisconsin for games against Milwaukee (Jan. 28) and defending league champion Green Bay (Jan. 30). The following weekend, the Titans play in two road doubleheaders with the men's team, visiting Cleveland State on Feb. 4 and Youngstown State on Feb. 6.

UDM returns home for its only home games during the month of February, hosting UIC on Feb. 11 and Valparaiso on Feb. 13. Detroit has just three games in the final two weeks of February, visiting Northern Kentucky for the first time in league play on Feb. 18. Detroit plays at Wright State on Feb. 20 before making the short trip to league rival Oakland on Feb. 27.

Detroit closes out the regular season with two home games in the first week of March. The Titans host Green Bay on March 3 and Milwaukee on March 5 in the final weekend of the regular season.

The Horizon League Championship is set for March 10-13 in Green Bay for the 2015-16 season. A new format for the upcoming year has all 10 teams competing under one roof at the Kress Events Center. It's the first time since 2001 that all of the teams in the league are competing at one site for the conference crown.

The Titans already released the non-conference schedule, which includes home contests against Bradley (Nov. 13), Michigan (Nov. 15), Cincinnati (Dec. 2), IPFW (Dec. 9) and Eastern Michigan (Dec. 30), among others. Detroit also visits perennial power Maryland on Nov. 20, Western Michigan on Dec. 12 and Michigan State on Dec. 21.
