DETROIT (1/21/2016) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball team closes its three-game homestand on Saturday, hosting Metro Series rival Oakland for a 1 p.m. contest at Calihan Hall. The game is set to be streamed on ESPN3 and can also be watched on local television on WADL with
Denny Kapp calling all of the action.
The Titans (8-9, 4-2 Horizon League) are in third place in the Horizon League standings under first-year head coach
Bernard Scott. Detroit is coming off a thrilling 66-65 victory over visiting Northern Kentucky last Saturday. Oakland (10-7, 2-4 HL) has lost three-straight league games since starting the conference season 2-1.
It'll be National Girls & Women in Sports Day inside Calihan Hall as well as a Red Out with the first 500 fans receiving a free T-shirt. It's the first Metro Series matchup of the season between the two programs. The two teams split the matchups in the first year of the rivalry series last season.

Titans Win Thriller, 66-65, Over NorseThe Titans rallied from 13 points down and hit some clutch shots in the final minutes of the game to earn a 66-65 victory over visiting Northern Kentucky at Calihan Hall last Saturday. Detroit trailed 57-48 entering the fourth quarter, but used a 9-0 run to tie the game with 5:27 left in the contest. Detroit took the lead, 63-61, on a
Lola Ristovski 3-pointer with 1:08 remaining and after NKU regained the advantage,
Nicole Urbanick nailed a triple from the wing with 9.9 seconds left off an assist from
Rosanna Reynolds to give Detroit the lead for good.
Northern Kentucky had two chances in the final seconds, but
Lola Ristovski had a block on the first attempt and NKU's tip-in chance was ruled to have been released after the final buzzer. Reynolds had a game-high 18 points for Detroit, while Urbanick added 14 points -- 13 of them in the second half.
Lola Ristovski had one of the best games of her young career, totaling six points and a career-best seven assists against no turnovers.
Quick Hits• Detroit is 8-1 when shooting 40 percent or better from the field. The Titans lone loss came in the Horizon League opener vs. Youngstown State.
• The Titans have made 10 or more 3-pointers in three out of the last five games, including their last game against NKU.

Reynolds Reaches 1,000 PointsRedshirt-junior guard
Rosanna Reynolds became the 20th player in Detroit women's basketball history to reach the 1,000 point plateau when she made a lay-up with 56 seconds left in the first quarter against Wright State on Jan. 14. She is the first since 2013-14 to reach the milestone. Reynolds is currently tied with Mary Lillie for 19th place all-time on the scoring list and is sixth points off sole possession of 18th place.
The three-year starter was named Horizon League Player of the Week on Jan. 11 and leads the team in scoring (16.2 ppg) and assists (4.3 apg). She also ranks third in the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.0) and is fourth overall in scoring in the Horizon League. Earlier this season, she became the 12th player in school history to make 100 career 3-pointers.
All-Time SeriesThe Titans lead the all-time series, 12-9. Detroit has a 7-3 record at home against the Golden Grizzlies, including winning last year's matchup with Oakland at Calihan Hall, 73-62. The series began in 1979 with Detroit winning the first five games. The Titans are 4-6 against Oakland in their past 10 games, but have won 3 of the past five games played in Detroit.
Last Year vs. OaklandReynolds scored a game-high 27 points and added 11 rebounds, five assists and three steals in Detroit's 73-62 win over the Golden Grizzlies at home on Jan. 22 at Calihan Hall. The Titans trailed at the break, 32-27, but scored 46 second-half points for the double-digit win. The Titans finished the game just 4-of-22 from beyond the arc, but sank 17-of-21 free throws and forced 17 Oakland turnovers.
Haleigh Ristovski added 11 points and seven rebounds for the Titans.
Detroit scored just 19 first-half points in the re-match in Oakland later in the season on Feb. 18 as Reynolds again led all scorers with 26 points in the loss.
Brianne Cohen added six points, 10 rebounds and three steals off the bench for Detroit, which went 4-of-26 from outside. Combined in the two games last season, Detroit was 8-for-48 on 3-point opportunities (16.6 percent).
Up NextThe Titans hit the road for seven of their next nine games, starting with a weekend trip to Wisconsin next weekend. Detroit plays at Milwaukee on Jan. 28 before traveling north to face league unbeaten Green Bay on Jan. 30. The Titans don't return home until Feb. 11 against UIC.
