DETROIT (1/27/2016) --
The University of Detroit Mercy Department of Athletics hosted National Girls & Women in Sports Day on Saturday, Jan. 23 as the Titans welcomed more than 100 girls to Calihan Hall for the annual event.

"It was so great to see smiles throughout the day on the faces of the kids that attended as well as the student-athletes who helped out with the event," said Megan Callahan '13, the event organizer. "We had another great turnout and we are thankful to be able to continue to put on such a great event and to provide opportunities to young girls in our community."

National Girls & Women in Sports Day celebrated 30 years as an annual event, which brings attention to the success of Title IX and the thousands of opportunities it has provided young girls in the United States.

Girls ranging from ages 6 through 12 partipated in several of the different UDM women's sports including lacrosse, golf, soccer, softball, track and field, cheerleading and dance. They were also taught about the Oakland-Detroit #MetroSeries rivalry with many of the camp participants sticking around for the women's basketball game with Oakland following the NGWSD event on Saturday afternoon.
