DETROIT (10/11/2016) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's and women's basketball programs took center stage Tuesday with both Titan teams preparing for the upcoming 2016-17 seasons. A good showing of media was on hand at Calihan Hall with buzz surrounding both squads.

Head men's basketball coach Bacari Alexander '99, head women's basketball coach Bernard Scott, Director of Athletic Robert C. Vowels, Jr., among others all took the microphone at the press conference. The Horizon League's Cam Fuller and Rob Mattina, the Vice President of Marketing for the Detroit Red Wings also spoke at the podium to talk about the Motor City Madness basketball tournaments in Detroit.

Detroit Mercy President, Dr. Antoine M. Garibaldi, was also on hand at the press conference.

The Motor City Madness men's and women's basketball tournaments are set to run in conjunction with each other at Joe Louis Arena from March 3-7. Last year the Horizon League men's tournament was also at JLA, but 2016-17 will be the first year that the women's tournament will join the men's in the final year at the Joe.

Both the men's and women's basketball seasons begin on Nov. 11. The Detroit Mercy men's basketball team hosts Wayne State in a special exhibition game on Oct. 29 at Calihan Hall, with all proceeds from the game going towards the Detroit Public Schools system.
