Voice Of The Tigers Dan Dickerson To Call Titan Games On ESPN3, WADL

DETROIT (11/16/2016) -- The University of Detroit Mercy Department of Athletics has announced today that Dan Dickerson – the long-time voice of the Detroit Tigers – will serve as the main play-by-play voice of the Detroit Mercy men's basketball team on ESPN3 and WADL TV-38.

"I just love the college game with all excitement and the atmosphere that comes with it," said Dickerson. "This is a great opportunity to come back to the college game and be a part of one team. I see all the excitement that coach Alexander is building, and it is a great honor to come back and call games for the Titans."

Dickerson will call eight of the 12 home games that are on the regular season docket, which will appear nationally on ESPN3 and locally on the home of Titan basketball, WADL TV-38. His first game is set for next Saturday, Nov. 26, as the Titans host Manhattan at 2 p.m.

One of the most recognizable names in the Detroit sports market for nearly 30 years, Dickerson just finished his 16th season as the play-by-play voice of the Tigers.

He started his career working in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in 1980, before working at WWJ-AM from 1988-95, hosting a postgame show for Detroit Lions broadcasts and serving as a sideline reporter for University of Michigan football. He also anchored WWJ's news and sports on the weekends and served as general assignment news reporter.

He would later go on to work with WJR-AM in a variety of roles, including hosting a nightly call-in sports show, and was a sideline reporter and substitute play-by-play announcer for Michigan football and spent two seasons as play-by-play announcer for the Michigan basketball program.

Dickerson won the 2008 Ty Tyson Excellence in Sports Broadcasting Award by the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association and was named the Michigan Sportscaster of the Year in 2005 and 2006 by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.

Dickerson will call games alongside Titan great Earl "The Twirl" Cureton.
