Titans Host Special Promotion On Friday to Thank Veterans, Active Military

DETROIT (11/8/2016) -- You made the bravest and most courageous choice by serving our country and the University of Detroit Mercy Department of Athletics wants to thank you for your service as the Titans will host a special Veteran's Day promotion in their men's basketball season opener on Friday, Nov. 11.

The Titans will begin their season against Adrian College with the game starting at 7 p.m., on Dick Vitale Court in Calihan Hall.

The Titans have "joined forces" with the Michigan Veterans Foundation and all veterans and active military members, with proper ID, can receive free tickets in advance or on game day and an additional ticket for a friend or family member. Others in the group can purchase tickets for half-price.

The day will feature a colors presentation and the National Anthem sung by a veteran.

Detroit Mercy will also honor a few local veterans who are part of the Tuskegee Airman Inc., Detroit Chapter. The goal of the TAI includes:

  • Honoring the accomplishments and perpetuating the history of African-Americans who participated in air crew, ground crew and operations support training in the Army Air Corps during WWII.
  • Introducing young people across the nation to the world of aviation and science through local and national programs such as Young Eagles and TAI youth programs and activities.
  • Providing educational assistance to students and awards to deserving individuals, groups and corporations whose deeds lend support to TAI's goals. TAI also supports the Tuskegee Airmen Award presented to deserving cadets in the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Program.
