INDIANAPOLIS (12/5/2016) -- Freshman
Anja Marinkovic has been named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. It's the first career honor for the University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball guard.
Marinkovic averaged 16.0 points and shot 52 percent from the floor and 57 percent from 3-point range in two games last week. She totaled the fifth-highest point total in the Horizon League so far this season, scoring 29 points in Detroit Mercy's game at Minnesota with the Titans breaking the single-game record for 3-pointers made at 16.
She sank seven 3-pointers in the contest against the Golden Gophers, going 7-for-11 from deep. Her seven triples are also the most in a single-game in the conference in 2016-17. It was her first game scoring in double figures.
For the season, Marinkovic is averaging 8.0 points per game and has made 12 treys, while also shooting 80.0 percent from the foul line and 37.3 from the floor.
The Titans return to the court Tuesday night, visiting in-state foe Eastern Michigan for a 7 p.m. contest in Ypsilanti. It's the seventh road game in nine to open the season. Detroit Mercy hosts Western Michigan on Saturday in its next game from Calihan Hall.
