DETROIT (2/16/2016) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball program hosted its annual Pink Game this past Saturday and raised more than $3,000 to help support the fight against cancer. It was the largest total raised for a Pink Game in the program's history.
Proceeds from the contest are being donated to Gilda's Club Metro Detroit, a local organization based in Royal Oak that offers support for everyone afflicted with cancer.
"The support for this year's Pink Game was overwhelming and we are very thankful to all who supported the Pink Game efforts in the fight against all forms of cancer," Associate Athletic Director
Teri Kromrei '03 said. "We look forward to continuing our support of the Pink Game initiative in the future."
Detroit donned pink uniforms, shoes and other attire on Saturday, while the visiting team, Valparaiso, also wore pink warm-ups before the game. The Titans won their contest on Saturday, 85-65.
Members of the athletic department, including head coach
Bernard Scott, Director of Athletics
Robert C. Vowels, Jr. and men's basketball head coach
Ray McCallum all donated $10 or more per 3-pointer made during the contest. Detroit sank 11 triples in the game.
The University of Detroit Mercy Department of Athletics would like to thank supporters of the Pink Game and the fight against all forms of cancer. For more information on Gilda's Club Metro Detroit,
