Complete ResultsSOUTHFIELD, Mich. (2/27/16) – The University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team notched a 5-2 win Saturday night against the University of Northwestern Ohio from the Franklin Athletic Club.
The Titans picked up the doubles point as the first and second lines secured victories.
Anna Davydova and
Irina Slizovskaya recorded a 6-4 win from the top line, while
Valeryia Kulikovskaya and
Viktoria Laskutova edged UNOH, 7-6, from the second position.
Detroit flexed its muscle in singles play as four of the six Titans picked up wins.
Davydova outlasted the Racers in three sets, 7-5, 5-7 and 6-4, before the Titans picked up wins in the fourth through sixth positions.
Nynke Van Der Goot took the win in a hard-fought, three set thriller, while Laskutova and freshman
Iris Thioux picked up convincing two-set wins.
The win is Detroit's first of the season and improves their overall record to 1-3. Meanwhile, the Racers fall to an even 4-4 with the loss.
The Titans return to action Sunday at Toledo at 1 p.m.
