Full Results EVANSTON, Ill. (3/12/16) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision at No. 11 Northwestern on Saturday night from the Combe Tennis Center in Evanston, Ill.
The Titans battled the Wildcats tough, but Northwestern was up for the challenge and proved their strength with the clean sweep.
In doubles,
Griffin Mertz and
Chance Conley fell on the top line, 6-2, before the Wildcats earned the doubles point with a 6-1 win from the second position.
Junior
Patryk Koscielski put up a fight in the first set before falling, 6-4 and 6-1 from the top line to the 11th-ranked player in the country in Konrad Zieba.
Nathan Ponton squared off against 95
th-ranked Strong Kirchheimer and hung tough in the first before dropping the point 6-3 and 6-1.
Freshman
Nicholas Solarewicz was edged in the first set, 6-4, but ran out of gas and fell in two sets from the third line.
Ismail Kadyrov was edged from the fourth position, 6-2 and 6-4, while
Adam Zychowicz and
Chance Conley each fell in two sets from the fifth and sixth positions, respectively.
With the loss, Detroit falls to 2-9 on the season. Meanwhile, No. 11 Northwestern improves to 14-1 with the win.
The Titans return home to face Chicago State on Sunday night at 6 p.m. from the Franklin Athletic Club.
