Full Results AKRON, Ohio (3/12/16) – The University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 contest on the road at Akron University on Saturday morning from the LaTuchie Tennis Center in Ohio.
The Titans surged out to an early lead after taking two of the three doubles matches, but lost their footing in singles as the Zips took five of the six individual matches.
The duo of
Anna Davydova and
Irina Slizovskaya got things started with a 6-2 win on the top line of doubles, before
Valeryia Kulikovskaya and
Viktoria Laskutova secured the doubles point with a thrilling 7-6 decision from the second line.
Detroit's lone win in singles came from
Nynke Van Der Goot, who earned a hard fought victory in two sets, 7-6 and 7-6.
The Zips improved their record to 10-4 this spring, while Detroit drops to 1-5 with the loss.
The Titans now shift into the conference portion of the schedule, beginning with a road contest at Milwaukee on Mar. 26. The match is set to begin at 12:30 p.m. from the Badger State.
