Rosanna Reynolds was named First Team All-Horizon League and sophomore
Brianne Cohen was voted the Sixth Player of the Year on Tuesday as the pair of University of Detroit Mercy student-athletes were honored in the postseason women's basketball awards by the league. The awards are voted on by the league's head coaches, media members and institution Sports Information Directors.
Reynolds was named All-Horizon League for the second-straight season and as a member of the All-League First Team for the first time in her career. The junior guard started all 29 games during the regular season and led the Titans at 15.5 points per game. The Canton, Mich. native also led Detroit with 142 assists -- which ranked third in the Horizon League -- and 38 steals.
Reynolds also leads the Horizon League in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.0), while ranking second in the conference in free throw percentage (86.5). She reached the 1,000-point plateau on Jan. 14 against Wright State and set a single-game Detroit record with 15 assists in an overtime win at Wright State on Feb. 20.
Cohen shined in her role of coming off the bench this season, averaging 15.3 points per game. She scored in double figures in 21 of 27 games off the bench during the regular season and ranked third in Horizon League-only games with a 17.9 points per game average. The Toronto, Ont. native is currently leads the league in free throws made (113), while ranking second in field goal percentage (57.8) and sixth in offensive rebounds per game (2.8).
The sophomore forward has scored 20 or more points in six of her past nine games, which includes a career-best and Detroit season-high 33 points in the Titans' regular season finale victory over Milwaukee. Cohen is second on the team in rebounding (5.7) and ranks second on the team in blocked shots with 21.
Detroit (15-14) is the No. 4 seed in the 2016 Horizon League Women's Basketball Championship. The Titans play No. 9 seed Valparaiso in the first game of the tournament at 1 p.m. ET Thursday at the Kress Events Center in Green Bay.
