HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (4/10/16) – The University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team bounced back with a 4-1 win at Northern Kentucky on Sunday afternoon from the Joyce Yeager Tennis Complex.
The Titans opened the match by securing the doubles point with 6-3 wins from the first and third positions. Detroit secured the victory with three singles wins before the final two singles pairings went unfinished.
Anna Davydova and
Irina Slizovskaya took the top doubles pairing by a 6-3 decision and
Iris Thioux and
Nynke Van Der Goot took No. 3 by the same score.
In doubles, the win by Davydova and Slizovskaya extends their unbeaten streak to seven. The duo has won nine of its last 10.
Slizovskaya overpowered Sydney Power at the second singles position in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-3. Slizovskaya has now won five of her last six singles contests.
Van Der Goot won from the fourth spot, 6-4 and 6-3, before Thioux cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win from No. 5.
The win gives Detroit three road wins in Horizon League play and improves their overall record to 4-8 and an even 3-3 in conference action. Meanwhile, NKU slips to 7-9 overall and 2-5 in HL play.
The Titans have three games remaining on the season, all of which are at home. Detroit hosts UIC on Saturday, April 16, and Valparaiso on Sunday, April 17, before closing the regular season against Oakland on April 23.
