VALPARAISO, Ind. (5/8/16) – University of Detroit Mercy women's track and field freshman
Kye Dozier led the Titans on the final day of the 2016 Horizon League Outdoor Championships on Sunday afternoon from Valparaiso University.
Dozier was named the Horizon League's Freshman of the Year for running events after lowering her Detroit rookie record to 56.34 for a silver medal in the 400-meter dash. The mark is also the second-best time in program history.
The Detroit foursome of junior

Natalie Vizard, sophomore
Elizabeth Mullen and Dozier broke Detroit's 4x400-meter relay record after finishing in 3:49.88. The squad earned six points in the race after finishing third. Vizard ran the first leg in 58.6, followed by Dent in 57.3, Mullen in 57.6 and the anchor of Dozier in 56.3.
The Titans placed three in the 100-meter dash, led by freshman
A.J. Carnathan and senior
Allison Garner, who took fifth and sixth in 12.30. Sophomore
Alyson Hamilton finished seventh in 12.43. The trio combined for nine points in the event.
Junior
Samantha Zakalowski took fourth in the 800-meter run, giving the Titans five points after finishing the race in 2:18.38.
In the 4x100-meter relay, the Titan quartet of Carnathan, Hamilton, Vizard and Garner took fourth place in 47.72.
Senior
Aisha Potts-Tyre earned five points for Detroit in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing fourth in a time of 14.35 – just .01 off her personal record.
Sophomore
Sydnie Fetherolf led the Titans in the 1,500-meter run, clocking in at 5:08.42.
The Titans had three runners in action for the 5,000-meter run and were led by junior
Devon Sutton, who finished 11
th in 18:35.95. Sophomore
Taylor Smith checked in next at 18:41.13, followed by sophomore
Jenny Ponkowski in 19:33.68.
Detroit finished the championships in seventh place with 54 points. Youngstown State took the title with 196 points, followed by Milwaukee with 167 points. Oakland finished third with 156 points, followed by Northern Kentucky with 81.
