Men’s Basketball Welcomes Nearly 1,000 Kids To Summer Camps

DETROIT (6/24/2016) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball program saw nearly 1,000 high school student-athletes enter Calihan Hall in the past week as the Titans held their annual Elite Camp and Team Shootouts.

"We are excited to get the level of support from the entire state and region!," said head coach Bacari Alexander '99. " The coaches from local, metro, International, and the state we're kind and left as ambassadors of our vision for the program. The next step is keeping some of the highly talented student-athletes home."

Camp week started last Wednesday, June 15, with the Elite Camp, which included over 100 players from all over Michigan as well as Canada, Indiana, Ohio and Wisconsin.

Some of the camp features were individual workouts, NCAA Rules Education and strength and conditioning sessions.

The Titan Team Shootouts then took place from June 20-22 as 72 teams from all over Michigan and Canada competed for a camp title. The Team Shootouts were broken down into a three-day competition on Dick Vitale Court with registered referees on hand.

More than half of the schools that advanced to East Lansing for the state championships in 2016 were also part of the field.

The University of Detroit Mercy would like to thank all of those who participated in the camps and to please keep checking back for more information on future camps and clinics.
