Titans Bolster Their Future With Michigan Transfer Kameron Chatman

DETROIT (6/9/2016) -- The final piece of the 2015-16 University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball recruiting class does not have to move very far as University of Michigan sophomore Kameron Chatman (Portland, Ore. /Columbia Christian) has officially transferred to the Motor City.

Chatman – a 6-8, 215-lb versatile guard/forward – was a high major prospect coming out of high school ranking in the top 50 by most recruiting services. He will sit out the 2016-17 season due to NCAA transfer rules, but will have two years of eligibility left.

"Kam (Kameron) is a player who comes from a winning culture at Michigan," said head coach Bacari Alexander '99. "Any time you can secure a high-major transfer and a five-star talent at our level, it can be great for a program. His experience and skill set gives us a player who can become a stat sheet stuffer, and his maturity will be welcomed as we establish our culture."

Chatman played in 60 games – starting 17 – in his two seasons with the Wolverines, helping the squad post 39 wins and a trip to the NCAA Tournament last year. The NCAA Tournament appearance came on the heels of his game-winning 3-pointer in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals as Michigan knocked off top-seeded and 10th-ranked Indiana, 72-69.

In Ann Arbor, he averaged 3.2 points and 2.0 rebounds per game along with tallying 19 steals and 10 blocks in limited time on the court. As a freshman, he saw action in 32 games with 15 starts and posted a career-best 13 points against Rutgers and nine rebounds versus Syracuse in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

Chatman ended his high school career at Columbia Christian in Portland, Oregon. As a senior, he was Valley 10 All-League First Team leading the squad to an Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) Class 1A championship. After the season, he played in the Jordan Brand Classic and was invited to tryout for the USA Basketball U18 National Team.

He began his prep career at Jefferson High School in Oregon, guiding the team to 29 wins as a freshman and sophomore before transferring to Long Beach Poly (Calif.) High School as a junior. He also played AAU with ICP Elite.

The former Wolverine was ranked No. 25 nationally and the 11th-ranked forward by Rivals.com. Scout listed him as a five-star prospect and No. 23 in the country, while ESPN ranked him No. 38 in the class of 2014.

Chatman completes an impressive first recruiting class for coach Alexander, which also includes incoming freshmen Corey Allen (Ypsilanti, Mich. / Ypsilanti), Malik Eichler (Berlin, Germany / MacDuffie Prep (MA) and Cole Long (Orangeville, Ont. / Athletic Institute Basketball Academy) along with junior college transfers Dre Black (Westland, Mich. / John Glenn / Schoolcraft College) and Isaiah Jones (Antelope, Calif. / Center / Mt. San Jacinto College)
