DETROIT (7/26/2016) -- Former University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball standout and Horizon League Player of the Year
Ray McCallum will be coming home as he has signed a contract with the Detroit Pistons.
Originally selected by Sacramento in the second round (36th overall) of the 2013 NBA Draft, the former University of Detroit Mercy Titan has appeared in a total of 154 NBA games in his three-year career, averaging 6.0 points, 2.4 assists, and 2.0 rebounds. He also owns a 2.3-to-1 assist to turnover ratio while recording 79 steals and 27 blocks.Â
McCallum spent the 2015-16 season in the NBA playing with the San Antonio Spurs and the Memphis Grizzlies. He appeared in 41 total games averaging 3.3 points, 1.5 assists and 1.1 rebounds per game.Â
As a rookie with the Kings in 2013-14, he tallied 6.2 points, 2.7 assists and 1.8 rebounds in 45 games with 10 starts. The following season, he started 30 of his 68 appearances with the Kings averaging 7.4 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 21.1 minutes, while shooting .438 (206-470) from the field and .306 (34-111) three-point range.Â
He was then traded to the Spurs where he played in 31 games before ending the year with 10 appearances for the Grizzlies.Â
The 2013 Horizon League Player of the Year, McCallum ended his Titan career eighth all-time in scoring (1,618) and seventh in assists (451). He helped Detroit Mercy to two-straight postseason appearances with a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2012 and the NIT in 2013.
McCallum was the 22nd Titan to be drafted when he was selected in the 2013 NBA Draft.Â

As a junior, he led the Titans in points (18.7), assists (4.5) and steals (1.9) for the third-straight season as well as minutes played (36.6). He also led the Horizon League in scoring and steals, while finishing second in assists, assist-to-turnover ratio (2.2) and minutes played. McCallum was sixth in field goal percentage (49.1) and had at least one steal in all but six games, while scoring in double figures in all but five games on the season.

He finished his Titan career in 2013 as the Robert Calihan Team MVP and an All-Horizon League First Team selection. He was named to the National All-Jesuit Team, the Lou Henson All-America Team as well as the National Basketball Coaches Association (NBCA) All-District First Team. He was also a Preseason John Wooden Award Top 50 selection, Preseason James Naismith Award Watch List, Lindy's Sports Preseason Horizon League Player of the Year and a Bob Cousy Award Final 20 honoree.
