DETROIT (8/25/2016) -- Two new faces have joined the University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball staff with
Kayla DeCriscio and
Corey Green as the new graduate assistants for the program, announced second-year head coach
Bernard Scott.
DeCriscio and Green began their duties this week prior to the start of the 2016-17 school year.
"These two positions are very important to our program," Scott said. "I wanted to make sure that I hired good people who work hard and are willing to do whatever it takes to help our program be successful. I found that both Kayla and Corey possess these qualities. Both of them will have the opportunity to learn from our staff and grow professionally. I'm looking forward to them joining our Titan family."
DeCriscio joins the staff at Detroit Mercy after recently graduating from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, where she played four years of basketball and served on the school's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, including a year as President. She sank 170, 3-pointers during her career for the Mountain Cats, leading the team in triples made and 3-point shooting percentage two times each.
The Altoona, Pennsylvania, native served as an Assistant Coach for the PA Pride Grassroots Youth Program (AAU) team and also coached for the Next Level Basketball clinic during several summers, teaching basketball to athletes ranging from ages 6 to 17.
"Kayla will handle most of our director of operations responsibilities," Scott said. "Her biggest responsibility will be coordinating all of our team travel which includes reservations, agendas, practice times and so much more. Kayla is highly organized and that is what I was looking for when filling this position."
Green will be the Video Coordinator for the Titans after serving the same role at his alma mater, Old Dominion University. He spent the past three seasons with the ODU women's basketball team in a variety of roles. Most recently, he served as the interim Video Coordinator for the 2015-16 season, creating video highlights, coordinating film exchange with other teams and setting up and operating all video equipment at practices and games, among other duties.
He started working with the Monarchs before the 2013-14 season and was a student manager and office assistant for the squad. Some of his responsibilities during his time with ODU included working various basketball camps and clinics, assisting with the coordination of travel, assisting in the development of post players and filming games and practices.
"Corey will serve as our video coordinator," Scott said. "His responsibilities will include helping our staff with scouting videos, producing our recruiting and all-access videos along with much more. Corey comes from ODU where he was very hands on with all of their video needs. The experience he gained at ODU will help him be successful here."
The Titans are entering their second season under head coach
Bernard Scott. Detroit Mercy brings back everyone and has added pieces from a team that finished 15-15 and 11-7 in the Horizon League last season. Earlier this summer, Detroit Mercy
announced its 11-game non-conference schedule.
