Road Games Highlight Women's Basketball Non-Conference Slate

2016-17 Women's Basketball Non-Conference Schedule

DETROIT (8/3/2016) --
Eight road games, including a Thanksgiving trip to California, highlight the 2016-17 non-conference schedule for the University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball team with the finalized slate of games being released on Wednesday.

The Titans play eight of their 11 non-conference games away from the friendly confines of Calihan Hall, including the first three contests of the season.

"We have put together a competitive non-conference schedule that will help us prepare for the Horizon League portion of our season," Detroit Mercy head coach Bernard Scott said. "We will be challenged early with our first three games being on the road. I'm excited to see our team compete against quality teams that have had a lot of success."

Detroit Mercy, which brings back its entire squad from last season and brings in five newcomers, opens the season on Nov. 11 at Delaware State. Just two days later, the Titans head to the Tar Heel State for a date with East Carolina on Nov. 13. The Titans conclude their three-game road swing to open the season at Bradley on Nov. 18.

The Titans' home opener is set for Nov. 21 as Detroit Mercy welcomes Mid-American Conference foe Kent State to Calihan Hall. The following week, Detroit Mercy makes the trek across the country to California to play in the Cal State Northridge Thanksgiving Classic on Nov. 25-26. Detroit Mercy is set to battle the host Matadors on the first day of the tournament before playing either Michigan State or Delaware in the final day of the event on Nov. 26.

The squad returns home to host George Mason on Nov. 30 before returning to the road to tussle with Big 10 opponent Minnesota in Minneapolis on Dec. 3. The Titans then play a trio of MAC opponents, visiting Eastern Michigan on Dec. 6 before hosting Western Michigan on Dec. 10 in the final home game before the holidays.

Detroit Mercy concludes the non-conference portion of its schedule by hosting Toledo on Dec. 21.

The Titans are entering their second season under head coach Bernard Scott and went 15-15 with an 11-7 record in the Horizon League during the 2015-16 campaign. Detroit Mercy is celebrating its 40th season of women's basketball overall in the 2016-17 season.
