DETROIT (1/15/2017) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball opens a stretch of six games out of eight at home Monday afternoon, welcoming Northern Kentucky to Calihan Hall for a 4:30 p.m. contest. The game is set to be streamed live on ESPN3 and may be seen locally on WADL TV-38 with
Denny Kapp calling all of the action.
The contest with the Norse is the opener of a doubleheader with the Titan men's basketball squad on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Admission into the women's game is
FREE.
Detroit Mercy (7-9, 3-2 Horizon League) and the Norse (5-12, 1-4 HL) have met just two times previously, with both of them coming last season during head coach
Bernard Scott's first season with the Titans. The two schools split in their meetings last season, with each team winning at home.

• Senior guard
Rosanna Reynolds moved into second place in career assists (488) on Friday, passing former Titan Mary Lillie. Reynolds is 27 assists away from the all-time mark and is also just 12 points shy of becoming the fifth player with 1,500 career points. Reynolds is 14 points shy of fourth place on the all-time scoring list.
• Reynolds has the top two assist totals this season in the Horizon League, tallying 11 vs. UIC and 12 at Milwaukee in Detroit Mercy's last game. Reynolds leads the conference in assists (5.9 apg) and is one of two players with two 30-point games this season.
• Both
Kelsey Mitchell (2nd, 56.9) and
Brianne Cohen (4th, 54.7) are in the top five in the Horizon League in field goal percentage. The pair are No. 1 and No. 3 in the conference in HL-only games.
• Detroit Mercy has five players averaging in double figures in Horizon League play -- Reynolds (15.6 ppg), Cohen (12.4 ppg), Urbanick (12.0 ppg), Marinkovic (11.8 ppg) and Mitchell (11.4 ppg).
• Reynolds, who had a HL single-game high 12 assists at Milwaukee, leads the league in assists (5.9 per game), which ranks 26th in the nation.
• The Titans lead the Horizon League in defensive rebounding (29.7) and 3-point FG made (8.4), while ranking second in blocked shots (4.0), 3-point FG defense (28.0%) and field goal defense (37.9%). Detroit Mercy is third in scoring offense (73.6 ppg), assists (15.9 apg) and field goal percentage (42.0%).
• Detroit Mercy set a single-game school record with 16 3-pointers at Minnesota. The Titans have reached 15 treys in a game twice this season, also sinking 15 triples against UIC on Dec. 31.
• The red, white and blue are 17th in the NCAA in defensive rebounding (29.7 per game), 22nd in 3-point field goals per game (8.4), 55th in scoring offense (73.6 ppg) and 58th in assists (15.9 per game).

Brianne Cohen had one of the best shooting games in the HL against Green Bay, sinking 9-of-10 shots for a 90.0 percent shooting percentage. She shot 80 percent in two games last week in Wisconsin (12-for-15).
• Reynolds is the top active scorer in the Horizon League with her 1,488 points, which is also 35th in the NCAA among active players. She is also the active HL leader in assists with 488, which is 15th in the country among active players in Division I.
• The Titans have three games of 25 assists this season, which is the most in the
Bernard Scott era. Detroit Mercy has 25 assists in two of the three HL games.
• Detroit Mercy's 3-point field goal percentage of 55.6 in vs. UIC is also the highest in the Scott era. The Titans made 15-of-27 3-point shots against the Flames.
• The Titans rank second in the conference in blocks and have 22 already in five HL games.
Kelsey Mitchell posted a career-best five rejections against Oakland.
• Junior
Nicole Urbanick is quickly moving up the all-time 3-pointers made list and ranks seventh with 161. She is No. 20 among active NCAA Division I players in 3-pointers made per game at 2.27.

Nicole Urbanick ranks first in the HL in 3-pointers made per game (2.5), sinking 38 in 15 games. She also led the HL in 3-pointers made per game last season.
• In Horizon League-only games, Detroit Mercy leads in scoring offense (77.4 ppg) and assists (19.6 apg), while ranking second in FG percentage (45.2).
• Detroit Mercy plays six of its next eight games at home, hosting three games this week at Calihan Hall.
All-Time Series
Northern Kentucky and Detroit Mercy have met just two times previously, both coming last season during NKU's first season in the Horizon League. The two sides split last year with each team winning on their home court.
The Titans earned a home victory, 66-65, over NKU last season in the meeting at Calihan Hall before falling on the road against the Norse.
Rosanna Reynolds scored 18 points and
Nicole Urbanick added 14 in the home victory, with Urbanick hitting the go-ahead 3-pointer in the final 10 seconds of the contest.Â
Reynolds averaged a team-best 18.0 points against NKU last season, while
Lola Ristovski had seven assists in the first meeting and 13 points in the second contest.
Scouting Northern Kentucky
The Norse are in their first season under new head coach Camryn Whitaker. NKU has a 5-12 record and 1-4 mark in the Horizon League. Northern Kentucky's lone HL win came over Youngstown State in overtime.
Leading the team in scoring is junior Kasey Uetrecht, who is averaging 11.0 points per game on 31.9 percent shooting. Senior Rebecca Lyttle adds 9.5 points per game and totals 7.3 rebounds per contest, which ranks seventh in the Horizon League. Junior Mikayla Terry scores 9.6 points per game and has a team-high 21 steals for the Norse. Shar'Rae Davis leads the team in assists and has 15 in her past three contests for NKU.
Titan NCAA Ranks
Detroit Mercy is among the national leaders in 3-pointers made, ranking 22nd overall at 8.4 treys per game. The Titans are 17th in the country in defensive rebounding (29.4 per game), 55th in scoring offense (73.6 ppg) and 58th in assists per game (15.9).
Individually,
Rosanna Reynolds ranks 26th in the country in assists per game (5.9), 30th in total assists (94) and 37th in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.35).
Brianne Cohen is 36th in field goal percentage (54.7) and
Nicole Urbanick is 61st in the NCAA in 3-pointers made per game (2.53).

Detroit Mercy has three games at home this week, hosting Youngstown State on Friday, Jan. 20 in a 7 p.m. game at Calihan Hall. The Titans then welcome Cleveland State to Detroit on Sunday, Jan. 22 for a 1 p.m. meeting.
