Allen, Hogan Sweep Horizon League Awards

INDIANAPOLIS (1/16/2017) -- It was a team effort that helped the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team go on the road and record a victory over Oakland and for that, a pair of Titans were honored by the Horizon League on Monday.

Junior Jaleel Hogan was named the HL men's basketball Player of the Week, while freshman Corey Allen was selected the Freshman of the Week. Hogan was also tabbed the College Sports Madness HL men's Player Of The Week.

Hogan was simply tremendous in picking up his first-ever HL weekly award after going off for a career-high 39 points and 11 rebounds against the Golden Grizzlies, his third career double-double and first of the season. He was also 17-of-24 from the field, tied for the second most field goals in Division I this season.

His 39 points are the second most by a player in the HL this season and the most by a Titan since Willie Green had 41 against Wright State in 2003. It was also the most points by a Titan on the road since Green netted 43 at UIC, also in 2003.

Allen did not show any rookie jitters in his first-ever Metro Series game as he tallied 17 points, tied his season high with five rebounds and registered a pair of steals.

He was 7-of-12 from the field and 2-of-4 from behind the arc, helping the Titans put together a strong inside and outside game with Hogan early in the second period to help keep Detroit Mercy in the game and chip away at a nine-point deficit.

Hogan is currently sixth in the league in scoring at 15.4 points per game and second in the HL in field-goal percentage at 60.0-percent, good for 20th in the nation. In five conference games, Hogan is tied for second overall with Valparaiso's Alec Peters at 20.4 ppg.

Allen is the highest scoring freshman in the conference at 12.6 ppg., tied for 14th overall and is the league's leading three-point shooter connecting on 47.4-percent.

The Titans are back in action tonight as they host Youngstown State at 7 p.m.
