LOUISVILLE (1/27/17) – The University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team suffered a 7-0 loss to Western Kentucky in the 2017 season opener on Friday afternoon from the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center at the University of Louisville.
The Titans got in a hole early after falling in doubles, 2-1. Sophomore

Nynke Van Der Goot recorded the lone win for Detroit Mercy, dispatching WKU's Elpida Malamou and Monica Malinen by a 6-3 decision. Senior
Anna Davydova and freshman
Ksenia Providokhina put up a fight from the top position before being edged, 6-4.
After securing the doubles point, the Hilltoppers swept singles play to earn the victory.
Freshman
Marie Maitrot had a strong showing from the third position of singles, answering a narrow 7-6 defeat in the opening set with a 6-4 win in the second. Maitrot could not complete the comeback, however, with Cindy Oest hanging on for a 10-7 win in the final frame.
Thioux also bounced back from an opening set loss with a 6-2 win in the second, but would drop the third.
The Titans will face a quick turnaround as they return to the court on Saturday morning against Louisville. The match is scheduled for 11 a.m. from the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
