DETROIT (10/4/2017) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball team's travel plans have changed for the Thanksgiving weekend with the San Juan Shootout being officially moving to Daytona Beach, Fla., due to damage caused by Hurricane Maria.
The schedule for the shootout is being moved one day up and the Titans will play on Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 24. Detroit Mercy is still slated to play Clemson and North Texas at the tournament. Thursday's game vs. Clemson is set for 6:30 p.m. ET, while Friday's game against North Texas is at 4:15 p.m. ET. All games will be played at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach.
It's the second-straight season that the San Juan Shootout has been moved away from San Juan, Puerto Rico. The 2016 shootout was also moved to Daytona Beach, Fla. due to concerns about the Zika virus outbreak.
Detroit Mercy is playing in its second-straight Thanksgiving weekend tournament after taking part in the CSUN Thanksgiving Classic last season.Â
The San Juan Shootout has been running since 1987. Detroit Mercy has played in the San Juan Shootout in two previous seasons, last during the 1997-98 campaign. The Titans hold a 2-4 all-time record at the tournament with wins over Michigan State and Southern Illinois.
The Titans recently officially began preparing for the 2017-18 season, their third under head coach
Bernard Scott and 41st overall as a program. Detroit Mercy had its first practice of the season on Sunday.
