DETROIT (10/20/2017) -- The fans were screaming, the prizes were plentiful and the smiles filled historic Calihan Hall as the University of Detroit Mercy Athletic Department hosted Hoop Night In The D on Friday evening.

The annual event helps usher in the start of the basketball season.

Both the men's and women's team were on display as the current Titans were introduced to the fans. Both teams then participated in a couple of skill challenges and the men's team went through an open gym workout.

The night started with the "Taste of Detroit," as several area and local restaurants were in attendance with free samples of food and beverages. The spirit squads also dazzled the crowd with new routines.

There were activities for fans all throughout Calihan Hall as well as a number of giveaways. Students also had the opportunity to win gift cards by winning various games.

The Titans will open the 2017-18 season in a couple of weeks with exhibition games. The women will host Lawrence Tech on Nov. 3 at 7 p.m., while the men welcome Wayne State for the Annual City College Series on Nov. 4 at 7 p.m.
