BOSTON, Mass (10/4/2017) -- Former Titan women's lacrosse standout Emily Boissonneault '13 became the first player in program history to be drafted professionally when she was selected by the Boston Storm of the United Women's Lacrosse League on Saturday.
The Storm selected Boissonneault with the 14th pick in the UWLX Supplemental Draft. Boissonneault most recently played for Team Canada this past summer, helping lead the team to a pair of silver medals at the 2017 FIL Women's Lacrosse World Cup and the 2017 World Games.
"I'm thankful for the opportunity to play for Boston this summer," Boissonneault said. "Coming off the World Cup year, I am physically and mentally at the top of my game and excited to have another chance to support the growth of our sport.
"One of the favorite parts about playing with Team Canada is playing with experienced and talented women. Like that experience, I look forward to continue to grow my game in a competitive environment and against some of the best players in the world."
Boissonneault, the career Titan leader with 272 points, earned the President's Award at the University as a senior which is presented annually to the top Titan student-athlete within the athletic department. Boissonneault received All-Conference accolades all four years and was named the National Lacrosse Conference Attacker of the Year during her freshman campaign in 2009, the first season of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse.
Boissonneault's name still appears in the NCAA Division I record books as she ranks ninth in career caused turnovers per game (2.28), tied-for-15th in caused turnovers (157), 16th in goals per game (3.51) and tied-for-16th in career goals (242). She is entering her third season as an assistant women's lacrosse coach at James Madison University after beginning her collegiate coaching career at Winthrop.
